International Conference on Recent Advances in Chemical and Environmental Sciences (RACES-2024)

The Department of Chemistry and the Department of Environmental Science, Faculty of Science, jointly organised an International Conference on “Recent Advances in Chemical and Environmental Sciences” (RACES-2024) in collaboration with IFFCO, American Chemical Society, and Sanrachna on February 23–24, 2024. The theme of RACES-2024 was to explore “Green Approaches for Sustainable Development." It was attended by more than 200+ participants. Over the course of the two days, the conference witnessed a diverse array of activities, including keynote presentations, plenary sessions, panel discussions, and oral and poster presentations. All these sessions were focused on fostering knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue, and networking opportunities. The conference was inaugurated in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Vinod Kumar Jain and the Guest of Honour, Dr. S.D. Attri along with the Pro-vice chancellor of SGT University, Dr. Atul Nasa.

Keynote speakers, Prof. (Dr.) Nisheeth Desai, Prof. (Dr.) Prabuddha Ganguli, and Prof. (Dr.) Unnat Pandit, who are prestigious and eminent figures in their respective domains, delivered captivating talks on topics ranging from “Applications of green chemistry principles” to the “Role of IP in sustainable energy solutions." During these two days, 20 invited lectures on diverse topics were delivered by renowned personalities, including international speakers from South Korea and South Africa, who presented their speeches online. Further, an iconic discussion session on ‘Nano-Urea’ was moderated by Prof. Amogh Dev Rai with an IFFCO delegation emphasising the use of nano-fertilisers to promote eco-friendly farming practices in India. Furthermore, more than 100 posters and 40 oral research papers were presented during the conference by different participants, giving the researchers and students a platform to showcase their work and getting engaged in discussions with peers and experts. All the plenary sessions served as focal points for in-depth deliberations on key issues currently being faced by the global community.

Later, during the valedictory session, Prof. (Dr.) B. D. Malhotra, Chief Guest, and Dr. B. Sengupta, Guest of Honour, joined us. Awards, along with cash prizes, were given for the best posters and oral presentations. The conference served as a catalyst for positive change, inspiring attendees to leverage scientific knowledge and expertise in addressing the complex challenges being faced by our planet.
