ORAL HYGIENE DAY CELEBRATION ON 01-08-2016 BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PERIODONTOLOGY , FDS

Department of Periodontology, Faculty of Dental Sciences in association with SGT Medical Hospital, SGT University Gurgaon, Delhi-NCR will celebrate “Oral Hygiene Day” on 1 st August 2016 emphasising on “Perio-Systemic Links.” The aim is educating the general patients about the various common dental ailments which may lead to deterioration of the general health also. Free samples in partnership with Colgate Palmolive India™ shall also be distributed.

The occasion was graced by stalwarts of the dentistry Dr. Rajeev Chugh, Member, Dental Council Of India (Central Govt. Nominee) as Chief Guest & Dr. Vineeta Chugh, Assisstant Secretary, International College of Dentists (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal section) as Guest of Honour. The event boasted of Guest Lectures delivered by luminaries and renowned speakers Dr. Nikhil Srivastava ( Principal & Head of the Department, Pedodontics at Subharti Dental College, Meerut & Dr. Ashish Kumar, Professor, Department of Periodontology, IDST Dental College, Ghaziabad

Depigmentation - Scalpel vs Electrocautery

A 26 year old male patient visited the Department of Periodontics with the chief complaint of “black” discoloration of gums. Intra-oral examination revealed that he had deeply pigmented gingiva of both upper and lower jaws extending from right first premolar to left first premolar for which the patient desired treatment. Complete medical and family histories were recorded and blood investigations were carried out to rule out any contraindications for surgery and after explaining the entire procedure informed written consent was obtained from the patient. Conventional surgical technique using scalpel for depigmentation was performed on the right side (Figure 4.) and electrosurgery using electrocautry on the left side.(Figure 7.)
