Dr. S.C. Mohapatra was born in 6th October 1949 in Puri to a very well known Administrative family of Orissa.
Passed Medical Sc from MKCG Medical College, Orissa in 1972 and received Best Singer award in Medical College for all the 5 years and was also a man of stage.
Joined as a demonstrator at Gaya medical college in 1974then to BHU (Varanasi) in 1976.He did MD in Community Medicine and Diploma in Yoga in Banaras Hindu University, and since then he worked in BHU. He is the only teacher in India who lived 14 years in the Rural Health Training Centre (Chiraigaon), with the family and practiced Community Medicine. Became Medical officer RHTC in 1979,subsequently Professor in 2001and also headed the department. He Retired from BHU on 31 July 2015 after 15 years of Professorship.
He completed his MPHC in Health Management from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, England in 1988 and since then he has been a consultant in Health Management to NIHFW, UNICEF, European Commission, Save the Children, INCLEN, EPIDMAN,NACO and many more. He was also the International Commission Member for Bhopal Gas Disaster for India.
He received 7 awards to his name including M.K. SHESHADRI Gold Medal for Life time practice of Community Medicine (of ICMR, 1992) awarded by The President of India. He is also Extra Mural Scientist of ICMR (code-ICMR-3/1/2/1/9401460).
He shouldered many Administrative responsibilities in BHU, advisory body member in different organizations and Examiner in majority of the Universities for MBBS, MD, PhD and Master courses in Allied Branches.
He Guided 103 Students (all combined MD, PhD, M.Sc, MS, MD Ayurveda, Health Sc-Boston, MSc-Illinois and Mcom H-Liverpool etc).
He has total 151 Publication with 17 International of which 2 are in WHO. His present Citation Index is 541, h index is 13, i 10 Index is 15 and has total Impact factor of 23.437.
He has contributed Chapters in 17 Books including Two in an International Book published from Russia (Ku Integracji Krajow Baltyckich: Problem Katastrof).
He is the Author of first complete book on Health Management, A treatise on Health Management, published by JP Brothers.
He has 32 Projects to his credit of which he was Principal Investigator in 16 Projects.
He is Chief Editor of 4 Indian Journals and Member Editorial Board of 3 International journals and Member of 5 International Societies. He is Central Council Member of MCI for MD (Community medicine) and DNB Exams, as well as inspector. He joint the SGT University as the Dean, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences in July 2015 and at present he functioning as Dean, Academic Affairs of SGT University and Professor & HOD, Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences since December 2015.
