An Industrial-cum-Academic field visit to water treatment plant was organized for the final year BDS students and Postgraduate students of Public Health Dentistry on 19th February 2018. The event was planned and organized by the department of Public Health Dentistry, FODS in collaboration with authorities at the Basai Water Treatment Plant, Gurugram. The group of 97 Final Year BDS students was led by the Faculty members Dr. Neha Shukla & Dr. Abhinav Bhargava along with Mr. Jagdish and Mr. Hare Ram as support staff. The field trip was designed to expose students to water treatment unit operations, use of hydraulic equipment (pumps, flumes, etc) and environment regulations. Also the students learnt the water quality parameters so that the water can be safe for consumption. This visit made the students aware about the whole journey of how water, one of the lifelines of humanity, is collected from natural resources, processed and finally circulated to reach individual houses for appropriate and healthy use. This field visit proved to be useful for students as they learnt the insight about water treatment process and drinking water quality.
