6th Convocation Ceremony at SGT University
SGT University held its 6th Convocation Ceremony on February 20, 2019. It was a three-day event from February 20 to February 22. This year a total of 305 students and scholars graduated, 109 B. Tech., 44 M. Tech., 12 Ph. D., and 50 M. Sc. degrees were awarded. Present the eventualities of the ceremony.
On Day 1, that is, February 20, 2019, the Convocation began with the Academic Procession. Chief Guest Dr. Rakesh Kumar, IAS, Additional Country Director, United Nations Development Programme and Guest of Honour, Professor Dheeraj P. Sharma, Director, IIM Rohtak along with Chairperson, Smt. Madhupreet Kaur Chawla, Managing Trustee, Shri Manmohan Singh Chawla, and Honourable Chancellor Padmashri Ram Bahadur Rai Ji, the Pro-Chancellor Prof. Sham Singla, the Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, the Registrar, Controller of Examinations, members of Academic Council, Board of Management, Governing body, Deans, Faculty members, formed the part of the ‘Academic Procession’.
Faculties convened in the Convocation were Medicine and Health Sciences, Commerce and Management, Engineering and Technology and Behavioural Sciences. On Day 1, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, IAS, Additional Country Director, United Nations Development Programme graced the event as the Chief Guest and Professor Dheeraj P. Sharma, Director, IIM Rohtak, was the Guest of Honour. They delivered intriguing speeches which were well received. The highlight of the speeches of the dignitaries stressed upon the importance of positive thinking and the fact that the Convocation was not the end, but the beginning or commencement of their journey towards a brighter future.
Other highlights of the event ‘Special Award of Doctor of Letters( Honoris Causa)’ was conferred on Sh. Ashok Bhagat for his outstanding work for holistic development of tribals and Sh. Rajiv Vora for his contributions to non- violence, and peace by Shri Ram Bahadur Rai Ji. Other than these, Ph. D degrees were also awarded by Honourable Chancellor Padmashri Ram Bahadur Rai Ji to the scholars.
Two special awards were introduced this year. ‘Dr. Pushpanjali Mohapatra Award & Gold medal for Young Scientist’ was conferred on Dr. Astha Chaudhary, Faculty of Dental Sciences for her brilliant contribution in the field of interdisciplinary research. The other award which was constituted and given away was ‘Shrimati Champa Devi Memorial Gold Medal’ to Dr. Priyanka Gupta, a student of MBBS for consistency and outstanding academic performance. On Day 1 of the Convocation 2019, more than 300 students were conferred degrees and were awarded for their academic excellence.
Day 2 began with the customary ‘Academic Procession’. Respectable Chief Guest Prof. O.P. Kalra, Vice Chancellor, Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak and Guest of Honour Prof. Y.K. Gupta, former Dean (Academics), AIIMS, New Delhi along with Chairperson, Smt. Madhupreet Kaur Chawla, Managing Trustee, Shri Manmohan Singh Chawla, and Honorable Chancellor Padmashri Ram Bahadur Rai Ji, the Pro-Chancellor Prof. Sham Singla, the Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, the Registrar, Controller of Examinations, members of Academic Council, Board of Management, Governing body, Deans, Faculty members, were the part of the ‘Academic Procession’.
The faculties who were bestowed with a degree were Nursing, Physical Sciences, and Faculty of Dental Sciences. In his speech, the chief guest highlighted the importance of action and having ambitions in our life. Guest of Honor captured the attention of the students with his speech as it highlighted on respecting parents and teachers to succeed in life. He also guided students with his definitions of IQ- Intelligence Quotient, DQ- Developmental Quotient, EQ- Emotional Quotient and AQ –Adversity Quotient which is required in every part of life. Altogether, Day 2 was a momentous and a source of encouragement for all the students present.
Day 3 of SGT University’s Convocation 2019 began with the Academic Procession and all the members were the same as the previous days. On this day, students from the faculties of Allied Health Sciences, Physiotherapy, Law, Mass Communication & Media Technology, Hotel & Tourism Management, Education, SGT College of Pharmacy were conferred with degrees. Meritorious students were also felicitated with medals.
The articulate speeches of the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour won everyone’s heart. Both the dignitaries remarked that it was a privilege for them to be at this Convocation where students from all spheres gathered to receive their degrees. While Prof. Jain stated that the students need to respect their parents who sacrificed a lot so that their children could garner higher education, on the other hand, Prof. Gurmeet Singh was all praise for SGT University’s ‘Simulation Lab’ which he said was at par to international standards.
The final Day ended with a congratulatory note to the degree holders and everyone seemed to cherish these moments of achievements.
