Live Webinar on Complications of Diabetes & Obesity: Biology of Food & Nutrition

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, SGT University, conducted a webinar on Complications Of Obesity And Diabetes: Biology Of Food And Nutrition  on 19th November 2020. Dr. G. Bhanuprakash Reddy is a Scientist-G & Head, Dept. of Biochemistry, ICMR – National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad delivered the lecture.

Our Guest Speaker Dr. Reddy spoke about the prevalence of diabetes and obesity, diabetic complications such as retinopathy, neuropathy, and nephropathy. He spoke about the memory of lipotoxicity and its contribution to the progression of diabetes and other complications. The talk highlighted the role of ALR-2 inhibitors and the role of natural bioactive compounds such as tannoids, curcumin, rutin, and procyanidin B2 in minimizing the effects of ALR-2 inhibitors in diabetes and obesity. He also mentioned micronutrients such as vitamin B1 and its association with diabetic complications. He also mentioned the limitations of bioactive compounds.
It was a very enlightening session for the students, the faculty, and the other participants all over India. All of them an in-depth understanding of the subject.
