The robot, a mechanical device, which can perform the task with maximum efficiency and low cost even in adverse conditions according to the command of the masters. Robotics is the interdisciplinary branch of engineering and science that includes mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science and others. This branch deals with how to design a robot and its operation. It also explains the use of robots as well as computer systems for its overall control.

Now a day’s shortage of skilled labor and aging population directly reveals that industrial robots will be badly needed. In fact, that’s already started. It is affecting the people on the shop floor, as well as the robotics staff. The next generation is looking forward to an easy and comfortable life with the assistance of robot technology. Those influence the employment scenario for the youngsters. Industrial robotics is challenging. It’s not like space research but almost: what you do have to work. It requires very high technical and execution levels with dedication. In short, it’s about teamwork, communication and building true relationships.


Robots can replace human to do any monotonous, dirty or dangerous tasks in any industry that are not favorable to labor. Today, robotics is a rapidly growing field in research, design, and building new robots. Many robots can do the jobs in adverse conditions such as defusing bombs, mines and exploring shipwrecks. It has applications in medical fields. Robots can also be effective in areas where there are skill shortages. The more significant application of robots is in our everyday lives by contributing high value added services thus providing safer working conditions and a comfortable life to live. With the help of robotic technologies quality of life can be improved and people can live longer and more comfortably in their own homes. Navigation, motion control technologies are quite helpful in transport systems and intelligent household appliances.

Robotics in Indian industry

India is a looming promising market for industrial robotics industry which shares approximately 15 per cent of world market. With suitable stimulation and investment in the robotic technologies, a broad range of robotics products can be produced and more robotics activity can be enabled. For this, just identification of first-wave technologies that will drive early markets is required. Industrial robots are an essential part of the current manufacturing sector of India. Without the use of robotics technologies or cost-effective production, a dream of emerging India in all around the world in the field of manufacturing would not be possible. In addition, robot-based production increases accuracy, product quality, improves work conditions, decreases the time delay and leads to an optimized use of resources with maximum efficiency. The miniaturization of robotic technologies and newly developed sensing capabilities are the benefits which are befitting to an even wider range of manufacturing industries in India i.e. industries with small and varying lot sizes, materials and product geometries.

It is the industries which are gaining a lot of benefits out of robotics. The productivity of company has risen which made businesses achieve more profits. The company losses reduced because flawed products are trimmed down to almost none. In any industry to improve productivity robots are required. The automation industry is a big consumer of Robotic technology. Using such technology, the quality of products and processes improve considerably which directly affects the growth of the industry. Use of Robotic technology is very extensive in various Industries across a range of sectors such as atomic energy, automotive, defense, space, metals, textiles, and manufacturing. Robotics has opened up a plenty of opportunities for both entrepreneurs and students. Therefore, it is an ever growing field and many avenues have opened up in recent past. So students who have the required skill sets will be favored by such industries. The Indian Underwater Robotics Society or IURS (Intelligent Unmanned Robotics Society) is India’s first and non-profit research organization for the advancement of low-cost robotics and intelligent systems research in developing countries.   Robotics Society of India founded on July 10, 2011, is an academic society which promotes Indian robotics and automation activities. The society hopes to serve as a bridge between researchers in institutes, government research centers, and industry.

In India, there is a requirement of world class product in the Robotics industry having specialization in server engineering, mechanical engineering, automobile engineering, electrical and embedded programming (with a focus on design, manufacturing, and materials).

Future Aspects

In the future, robots will autonomously help in the protection of offices and homes, and secure borders. It monitors the environment in both routine and emergency operations. In space, the use of robots has become almost mandatory. All missions, be it in earth orbit or interplanetary, will be preceded or augmented by robots. In addition, the emerging technologies applicable to space robotics will enable a wide range of earth-based inquisition and material-processing activities from automated undersea inspection to mining and mineral extraction under highly hazardous conditions.

Do-It-Yourself (DIY) robots and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) research platforms are the need of the hour to make robotics more popular in India. Forecasting of India’s industries is the adoption of robotics in India in the future, because of globalization and high industrialization. Robotics in India is promised for a bright future. India is already a manufacturing hub which is catering to the whole world. India is worldwide on the sixth rank in the manufacturing sector. Believing that the use of robots in every aspect of manufacturing will provide the necessary edge to companies and make the work easier and efficient. In turn, this will drive the requirement of skilled manpower for this technology. Modern robotics engineers are approaching with the idea of developing machines that interact with their creators to increase the compatibility of the robot. This is the advance level of robotics industries when each and every work will be done with the help of robot which carries out complex computations and activities with improved production rate, quality.
