Dr. Prashant Vikram

Dr. Prashant Vikram, PhD, Director Research, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences is with SGT University since 11th September 2023. He is also leading the Department, Genetics & Plant Breeding and research initiatives at FASC, SGTU. By training he is a plant genetics, genomics, and breeding expert. He completed his doctoral research from International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines and continued for another couple of years as postdoc. Thereafter he worked in International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre(CIMMYT), Mexico as Postdoc and Associate Scientist. He also worked in the International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), Dubai (UAE) as postdoctoral scientist. He was associated with International Potato Centre (CIP) as a Senior Program Manager. Before joining SGT University, Dr Vikram was associated with DCM-Shriram Bioseed company based in ICRISAT, Hyderabad, as a Lead Scientist – Molecular Breeding. His industry,national, and international experience, along with his familiarity with the CGIAR and ICAR systems, significantly enhanced the value of his unique skills. He is credited with two prestigious awards – “ICAR’s Jawaharlal Nehru Award” for conducting outstanding doctoral research” as well as “The Ramanujan Fellowship Award” from the Department of S&T. He is serving editorial boards of reputed journals of international repute including - Frontiers in Genetics, BMC Plant Biology, Indian Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding. Dr. Vikram is Fellow of Indian Society of Genetics & Plant Breeding. He has published over 60 research articles in journals of international repute over 4200 citations with google scholar h-index of 30 & Scopus h-index of 28.
