Have you enjoyed our Diwali Utsav 2023 at SGT University? Festival of lights shines brightest. Share your Diwali Memory with Us.

“A ground full of adornments, a stage full of fireworks, bellies full of sweets, and faces full of smiles.”

Above is an apt, one-line summary of all that “Diwali Utsav 2023” was for SGT University. The marquee event was held on 3rd November and saw thousands gather to watch stellar performances in dance, singing, and other forms of art. Our students’ vision, ingenuity, and grace brought an unwavering brilliance to our holiday celebrations.

In this blog, we will describe every aspect of the celebration in detail, taking you from behind the scenes to the front of the stage. We will be highlighting the immense work put in by all at SGT to make sure that this Diwali was our best ever, one that would be worthy of our reputation as the best private university in Delhi NCR.

Pre-Diwali Competitions

Our pre-Diwali competitions, which aimed to give the festivities an auspicious start, attracted participation from a number of institutions in the National Capital Region and Haryana. Each event was painstakingly designed to highlight the aesthetic essence of Diwali. The categories ranged from diya stand fabrication, and mehendi competition, to reel making.

The best of the best came to show their creative and festive side, leaving us with some amazing artwork in the process. We sincerely thank everyone who contributed their time and skills to make our celebrations incredibly special.

The Preparation

The day belongs to those who prepare for it. Our students poured all they had into making sure everything was perfect for the big day, focusing on each aspect with the utmost pedanticity. Every move was practiced twice, every costume was checked thrice, and every ornament was inspected quadrice! Nothing was left to chance, and all of it played out just as brilliantly as it was supposed to.

The decoration crew worked incredibly long hours to handmake each piece that embellished the stage and its surrounds. The paintings and pieces paid proper tribute to Indian culture and tradition. Everyone was in awe of their artistry, and we are so grateful to them for it.

The Performance

Now we come to the main event, where it all went down. With steely nerves and immense fearlessness, our students stepped on the stage, with hundreds in the audience excited for what was to come. When the first beat finally dropped, they exploded, with their roles and steps becoming entrenched in them through all the muscle memory in practice.

It was all in sync and all-world! Every act highlighted a unique tradition for a particular portion of this country, and when viewed in its entirety, it gave us a beautiful image of what the nation is; A land of plurality, with everything old, new, and different coming together to celebrate something that is uniquely “INDIAN.” Here is a brief overview of some of the exhibitions:-

  • Shastriya Sangeet – Classical Music

The very first performance of Diwali Utsav 2023 saw the soulful melodies and intricate rhythms of classical Indian music performed by some of our budding talents. The call to the gods gave a seemingly appropriate introduction for the event, which was then followed by renditions of many iconic Indian songs and beats. The audience was left content, especially seeing the graceful performances in the background that were perfectly in sync with the sangeet.

  • Naatu Naatu

The iconic Oscar winner that has captured the hearts of every Indian gets its own SGT twist! Our talented dancers brought the energy and spirit of this hit number to life, blending traditional festivity with contemporary flair.

  • Lazy Dance

This unique and playful dance event defies the norms, embracing slow, relaxed, and languid movements instead of the typically energetic ones. Participants are encouraged to let go of inhibitions, connect with their inner fun side, and just perform without any fear.

  • Sufi Dance

In search of a TWIST-based connection with God! The art of “Sufi Whirling,” a type of meditation believed to be thousands of years old and practiced by communities worldwide, was fascinatingly shown to us by our students. We were all in a daze from the continuous circling, taking in something remarkable.

Conclusion: The Smiles that Made our Day

People are what create an institution, and my goodness, do we have people like no other. The diversity of thought, intellect, gender, religion, and race among our student body is something we as an institution are incredibly proud of, and it was evident in full measure at an event meant to celebrate plurality.

Diwali Utsav 2023” was intended to cheer up our students as we approach the holiday season, and we were touched to witness their genuine happiness as they took in the performances, rocked the stage, and enjoyed each other’s company. We hope these smiles shine ever so brightly as they go through life and all its good and bad moments. For us, these are unforgettable memories sewn to our hearts forever.
