Importance of NAAC: We are pleased to announce that SGT University is now on the short list of institutions to receive an ‘A+’ rating from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, the nation’s leading higher education rating body. This grade puts the university in rarefied air, being on few educational institutions in this country to have received a grade this high.
About NAAC
Founded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1994, they are the foremost body for evaluating and accrediting Indian universities and colleges. During a NAAC inspection, a university is graded on a number of criteria, like:-
- Curriculum
- Educating and Evaluating Processes
- Research and Academic Resources
- Facilities for Student Welfare and Support
- Institutional Leadership Competence
- Standards of Practice (SOPs) and Regulations
Post this examination, the university is handed a grade that can range anywhere from D to A++. According to the latest data as of June 2023, only 820 universities and 15,501 colleges have been handed an accreditation rating till now.
Significance of A+
An “A+” rating indicates a CGPA in the range of 3.26-3.50 (on a scale of 4), indicating that a university has excelled in almost all of the criteria mentioned above. It is the second highest possible grade that a university can receive. Only a handful of higher educational institutions in India have ever received a grade of A+ or higher.
Importance of NAAC & How SGT University Got It
“Obsession always beats talent.” Our eyes have been squarely focused on being the best for our students and helping them prosper. Since 2013, we have expanded, both externally and internally, in terms of program size and intellectual capacity. Our emphasis on “experiential learning” has been extremely beneficial for our students, who have gained additional layers of knowledge from the various workshops, seminars, interactive sessions, competitions and fests, and a bevy of other platforms that we have been able to provide for them. It goes without saying that all of this has only been complimentary to the academic rigor that we have in our classrooms.
Another aspect that has helped us stand out from many is our Centres of Excellence like CCSP, NRSC, CEEV, etc., which again reaffirm our commitment to maximize student potential through the inculcation of research and innovation in our pedagogy.

Kalra, and various other faculty heads and deans, are instrumental in whatever success the university sees, now and in the future.
The Way Forward
As an institution that has always ridden on great expectations, this grade has only added another chip to our shoulders and furthered our resolve to advance Indian education in newer and better ways. Going forward, some of our key aims will be:-

- Add to our already prodigious research output by giving our faculty and students even more support and resources.
- Instill a sense of societal responsibility in our students, connecting them with rural populations through our various outreach programs.
- Collaborate with other organisations and institutions, both regional and international.
