Dr. Pankaj Abrol, Professor and Head of Department of Paediatrics, is a well-known senior Paediatrician and a distinguished Paediatric Haematologist-Oncologist. He passed MBBS and MD (Paediatrics) from the prestigious Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU. He was trained in Paediatric Oncology in Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai – an institute par excellence. Erstwhile Senior Professor & Head Department of Paediatrics in PGIMS Rohtak, he established the Paediatric Cancer Unit there and was also in charge of Thalassemia & Haemophilia Day care centres. Dr. Pankaj Abrol is the national resource person for Thalassemia, Haemophilia and Paediatric Oncology. He is a pioneer in starting free chelation therapy for Thalassemia patients in PGIMS Rohtak. He initiated free treatment of Haemophilia patients with factors VIII and IX in PGIMS Rohtak. He has many research publications published in national and international journals and has written 17 chapters in textbooks. Dr. Pankaj Abrol has more than 38 years of teaching experience has guided many MD and Ph. D. Students. He has presented various papers in national and international conferences. He had been a trainer in various national programs like IMNCI and NALS. He had been stated coordinator in FMNCI. He has also been awarded a fellowship (FIAP) by Indian Academy of Paediatrics for extraordinary work. Dr. Abrol has also edited two books in Paediatric Haematology. He is a reviewer of journals like Indian Paediatrics and Indian Journal of Paediatrics. Dr. Abrol is a member of national and international bodies like Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), National Neonatology Forum (NNF), Indian Cooperative Oncology Network (ICON) & International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP). He has worked closely with associations such as India Paediatric Oncology Initiative and Jiv Daya of USA and has provided free tests and chemotherapy to his paediatric oncology patients by working closely with some voluntary organizations.
