Two-day Workshop on Mentoring Skills

The Centre of Excellence for Andragogical and Pedagogical Sciences (CEAPS), SGT University, organized a two-day Workshop on Mentoring Skills for Heads of Departments on 23rd and 24th February 2026 at Ananda Farms, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The workshop was thoughtfully designed to strengthen the mentoring capacities of academic leaders and enhance their ability to guide both faculty and students effectively within their respective departments.
In today’s dynamic academic environment, the role of a Head of Department extends beyond administration to that of a mentor who nurtures talent, supports professional growth, and fosters a culture of collaboration and trust. Keeping this in view, the workshop focused on developing effective mentoring practices, emphasizing leadership through guidance, support, and empowerment. Participants engaged in discussions and activities aimed at understanding how mentoring can contribute to building a positive and inclusive academic culture.

The sessions highlighted key aspects such as enhancing communication skills, developing empathy, and strengthening decision-making abilities, all of which are essential for impactful mentoring. Through interactive exercises and reflective dialogue, participants explored real-life scenarios and challenges faced in academic settings, enabling them to connect theory with practice.
The workshop was facilitated by Shri Inderjeet Mittal, Master Trainer and Retired Senior Class I Gazetted Officer, Central Secretariat, Government of India. With his extensive experience in leadership development and mentoring across diverse institutions, he brought valuable insights and practical perspectives to the sessions. His engaging facilitation style encouraged active participation, critical thinking, and meaningful exchange of ideas among the participants.
Overall, the workshop provided a valuable platform for academic leaders to reflect on their mentoring roles and refine their approaches. It reinforced the importance of mentoring as a strategic leadership function, essential for nurturing faculty potential, enhancing student learning experiences, and contributing to the overall growth and effectiveness of academic institutions.
