Choose an applicable course
The first step is to choose relevant courses for Nursing. Undergraduate and Post Graduation level Nursing courses is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and Haryana Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh are – GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery), B.Sc. Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing & Master in Nursing. Indian Nursing Council has started the new course, Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care Post Graduate Residency Program in India. This Program is intended to prepare registered Basic B.Sc. Nursing to provide advanced Nursing care to individuals, families, and communities who are critically ill. The Nursing care is concentrated on stabilizing patients’ condition, minimizing acute complications and maximizing restoration of health. This Nurse Practitioner is required to practice in critical care units of tertiary care centers. The program consists of various courses of study that are based on strong scientific foundations including the management of complex health systems and evidenced based practice. This program built upon the theoretical and practice competencies of Basic B.Sc. trained nurses. After the completion of this program and registration with the respective State, council is permitted to independently administer drugs and order diagnostic tests, procedures, medical equipment and therapies as per institutional protocols.
Nurse practitioners will be able to meet this demand provided they are well trained and empowered to practice. With the establishment of new cadres in the Center and State level, Master level prepared Nurse practitioners will be able to provide competent, cost-effective, safe and quality driven specialized nursing care to patients in a variety of critical care settings in tertiary care centers. A Nurse practitioner has been prepared and already functioning in Netherlands since 2010, Australia since the 1990s, UK since 1980s and USA since 1960s.
