The Centre of Excellence for Andragogical and Pedagogical Sciences (CEAPS) at SGT University, Gurugram, organized a two-day Orientation Workshop on Pedagogic Methods for the Faculty of Physiotherapy and SGT College of Pharmacy on 29th and 30th March 2024 from 10:00 am to 1:00pm. The workshop aimed to enhance teaching skills by focusing on foundational concepts such as rapport building, understanding learners, and implementing innovative teaching methodologies.
On Day 1, sessions emphasized the importance of building a positive and safe learning environment through rapport with students, using strategies like empathetic communication and icebreakers. A demonstration of group discussions and student seminar presentations highlighted their role in fostering critical thinking, teamwork, and communication while providing practical steps for organizing and moderating such activities.
Day 2 focused on understanding learner diversity, addressing varied backgrounds and learning styles, and employing adult learning principles for better engagement. Faculty members were also trained to handle challenging learners by addressing issues like disengagement, disruptive behaviour, and mental health concerns constructively. The workshop concluded with an introduction to Problem-Based Learning (PBL), showcasing its significance in healthcare education to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Overall, the workshop equipped faculty with effective pedagogic tools to create dynamic, learner-centered teaching environments in healthcare education.
