OSCE Masterclass for Teachers: Station Writing to Standard Setting

The Centre of Excellence for Andragogical and Pedagogical Sciences (CEAPS), SGT University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Dental Sciences, successfully conducted a two-day workshop titled “OSCE Masterclass for Teachers: Station Writing to Standard Setting” on 11th and 12th March 2026 at the Shooting Hall, A Block, SGT University. The workshop was designed to strengthen faculty competencies in designing and implementing Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) aligned with competency-based education.
The workshop was facilitated by distinguished experts in Health Professions Education—Dr. Pushpanjali Krishnappa, Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry, M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru, and FAIMER Fellow (IIF), and Dr. Jyotsna Sriranga, Director and CEO, Urja – Catalysts for Transformation, and FAIMER Fellow (PSG-FRI).
The sessions were highly interactive and practice-oriented, enabling participants to engage deeply with contemporary assessment strategies. Day 1 focused on foundational concepts such as competency-based assessment, blueprinting, and workplace-based assessment tools. Participants were introduced to OSCE design, including station blueprinting and logistical considerations, followed by intensive group work on drafting OSCE stations. Day 2 emphasized applied learning through live demonstrations of OSCE scoring using checklists and global rating scales, along with hands-on exercises on constructing and piloting assessment tools. A brief overview of standard setting methods further strengthened participants’ understanding of assessment standardization.
Participants also engaged in station validation and quality assurance exercises, culminating in the development of actionable implementation plans for their respective institutions . The workshop fostered a collaborative learning environment that encouraged peer learning, critical reflection, and the exchange of best practices.
Overall, the workshop successfully achieved its objective of enhancing faculty capacity in assessment design, improving reliability in evaluation, and promoting structured, competency-driven assessment practices, thereby contributing to the advancement of quality in health professions education at SGT University.
