The Centre of Excellence for Andragogical and Pedagogical Sciences (CEAPS), SGT University, organized a Three-Day Reflective Internal Leadership Development Workshop for Deans, Directors, and Heads of Departments from 16th to 18th March 2026 at the serene Classic Hill Top Resort, Chamba.
Designed as a leadership retreat, the workshop provided academic leaders with an opportunity to step away from routine responsibilities and engage in reflection, dialogue, and strategic thinking. The programme was facilitated by Shri Inderjeet Mittal, Master Trainer and Retired Senior Class-I Gazetted Officer (equivalent to Director to the Government of India), who brought extensive expertise in leadership development and institutional training.
The workshop was structured to combine conceptual insights with experiential learning. Day 1 focused on foundational aspects of leadership, including the qualities of an effective Dean/Director, relationship-building, and understanding the distinction between a boss and a leader. Participants engaged in discussions and exercises on behaviours, collaboration, and negotiation. The day also emphasized the importance of developing a clear Vision and Mission for departments, aligning leadership with purpose.
Day 2 deepened the engagement through sessions on ethics and values in education, Interactive exercises highlighted learning transmission gaps and the role of faculty in influencing student performance. Everyone also started consolidating their approaches and strategies.
Day 3 centred on reflection and consolidation. The day began with a Soul Nurture Walk and exercises on happiness and life balance, reinforcing the human dimension of leadership. This was followed by presentations where departments shared their Vision and Mission statements. On the final day, leadership and university officials came together, creating a platform for a collective amalgamation of ideas and discussions. This convergence enabled participants to translate reflections into concrete directions, ensuring that insights generated during the workshop move towards meaningful implementation.
Overall, the retreat reinforced the importance of vision-driven leadership, collaborative thinking, and effective execution, contributing to the strengthening of academic leadership at SGT University.
