Dr. Aman Jaswal is a Dedicated academic specialising in sociology, political science, and
international relations, with a focus on South Asia’s socio-political dynamics. Experienced in
delivering engaging lectures, developing innovative curriculum, and fostering critical
academic discourse among undergraduate and postgraduate students with an aim to foster
interdisciplinary learning among students while advancing research quality.
Dr Jaswal is a dynamic academic with a distinguished background in Sociology, International
Relations, and Journalism, specializing in South Asian geopolitical dynamics. He earned his
PhD in Sociology and International Relations from the University of Staffordshire, where his
interdisciplinary research explored the intersections of political science, sociology, and
security studies. Dr. Jaswal’s research interests are centred around South Asia, particularly
focusing on the complex geopolitical issues surrounding the Kashmir conflict, and how
identity, nationalism, and religion shape regional politics.
With a rich academic career, Dr. Jaswal has lectured at the University of Staffordshire, UK,
University of Lincoln, and Manav Rachna University, India, where he has taught
undergraduate and postgraduate students on a wide range of topics including specialised
lectures on borders and borderland geopolitics and global security. His courses include
global and regional security, sociological theories, ethnicity and crime, understanding
terrorism and insurgency and international relations, with a particular emphasis on South
and Southeast Asia. Notably, Dr. Jaswal has contributed to the Qualified Weapons Instructor
Training Course in collaboration with the UK Ministry of Defence, focusing on governance
and policy in South and West Asia.
Dr. Jaswal’s commitment to interdisciplinary learning is reflected in his innovative teaching
methods, blending digital platforms with traditional academic discourse to create engaging
and interactive learning experiences. He has supervised dissertations, conducted qualitative
research workshops, and provided 1:1 support to students in both qualitative and thematic
research methods.
In addition to his teaching, Dr. Jaswal is an active researcher and conference presenter. His
forthcoming publications include significant contributions to edited volumes on Kashmir and
peace strategies, and journal articles addressing the interplay of political ideology and
identity in South Asia. He has also been recognized with awards such as the Youngest
Researcher Best Paper Award at the Asia Pacific Peace Research Association Conference in
2022 and has been granted an ESRC Full PhD Scholarship and a Turing Grant for fieldwork
research.
Dr. Jaswal’s work stands at the intersection of academia, policy-making, and media,
reflecting his deep expertise in addressing critical socio-political issues. He is dedicated to
advancing scholarly discourse and contributing to the broader understanding of geopolitical
conflicts and security issues in South Asia.
