Celebrating Indian Diversity through Different Cuisines – Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat

India is known for its rich cultural diversity, and SGT University through its various cultural programs and events does its best to introduce to its students the customs, cuisines, and cultures from the different states of India – each with its rich cultural heritage.

Two events were held recently at SGT University, organized by the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management, showcasing the diverse cuisines of the two states of India: “Hyderabadi Briyani Festival” and “Chettinad Fever: A South Indian Food Festival.”

Hyderabadi Biryani

Hyderabadi Biryani is a popular dish in the Indian cuisine palette with a rich history dating back to the 18th century during the rule of the Nizams. This particular biryani is made with Basmati rice, meat, and a mix of spices, yogurt, and saffron. What sets it apart from other biryanis is that it’s cooked in a special clay pot called a “dum,” which seals in the steam and flavor, resulting in tender meat and perfectly cooked rice. The dish is known for its colorful presentation and is often garnished with fried onions and coriander leaves.

The Hyderabadi Briyani festival was organized on 24th February 2023 at SGT University and scrumptious dishes included: Mirchi ka saalan, Baghaare Baigan, Shorba, Mocktails, Double ka Meetha, Khubaani ka Meetha, Hyderabadi Irani Chai, and more.

South India Cuisines

South India is famous for its diverse range of spices, which have been exported for centuries across the world. Cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, and pepper are some of the most important spices produced in the region. The cuisine in South India is known for its spiciness, variety, and unique cooking methods, with each state having its distinct style. Rice is a staple food in the region, and it is typically eaten with Sambhar or curry.

To truly appreciate the essence of each region of South India, SGT University organized “Chettinad Fever: A South Indian Food Festival” on 31st March 2023. The dishes include   , , , , and more.

These two food festivals were a lead-up to the mega-cultural event: Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat to be organized by SGT University from 12th April to 13th April 2023.

Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat

Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat – an event to celebrate the cultural diversity and the unity in diversity of the marvel that is our great nation: India.

The two-day mega-cultural event aims to showcase the diverse set of traditions from different regions of our country through various competitions and performances – each to highlight a different facet of the fascinating cultures of our states.
