From Words to Wisdom: Shagun’s Literary Journey at SGT University

I am Shagun, and this is a continuation of a journey that I began a few years ago when I was a bachelor's student at SGT University. Being a proud postgraduate with my master's in English now, I am once again embraced in the comfort of this campus but challenged and inspired in a new way.

As a person who has experienced the undergraduate craze, I entered my master's degree experience with enthusiasm, a feeling of belonging, and a desire to explore further knowledge in the literary area.

Why I Decided to Stay at SGT University?

After completing my bachelor's here, I had no second thoughts about continuing this journey with SGT. The professors who used to teach me the foundations now challenge me to question, analyze, and interact with literature in a manner I had not previously considered. The culture of learning here does not stop at a certain point—it develops with you.:

What made me stay?

  • An elite, research-based curriculum that evokes critical thinking.
  • Professors, who are mentors rather than merely teachers, are encouraging, thought-provoking, and worldly wise.
  • A vibrant campus full of events and discussions and cultural platforms that drive creativity.
  • And the most important of all, a place that feels like home—warm, but never letting you stay the same.

Life Inside the English Department

The MA English program has provided me with an academically rewarding experience. Classical literature, feminist literature, sonnets by Shakespeare, postcolonial literature—we read it all. Among my favorite experiences, I would like to note:

  • Discussions of interpretations in heated but illuminating classroom discussions.
  • The presentations I had to make at a seminar helped me overcome my stage fright and confidently speak.
  • Reading groups in which faculty and students read and discuss books over cups of tea and great poetry.

Being interested in writing and expression, the Department of English at SGT University has helped me shape my career—not only in academics, but also as a professional.

As a result of research paper writing workshops, I acquired a solid background in literature interpretation, scholarly formatting, and organized writing. The sessions helped me develop my critical thinking and the organization of complicated ideas, as well as their clarification, and it was only a natural extension of these skills outside of the classroom.

This academic background gave me the boldness to venture into the field of content writing. Coursework quickly became work-work, taking the form of writing blogs, educational articles, and SEO-inspired content in service of both the SGT Digital Marketing Team and external sites as well.

I still use the same research-based approach and storytelling skills that I learned in my literature course today to make insights, engaging, and effective content. One of the greatest empowering experiences during my stay at SGT has been the change from academic writing to online content creation.

Beyond the Books: Events & Extracurriculars

Probably the most significant aspect of SGT University is the excellent integration of academic and extracurricular activities.

  • I have experience as an SEO content writer intern with the digital marketing team of the university, providing blogs and learning materials that reach out to potential students and readers.
  • Theatrical experiences as a head coordinator of the theater enabled me to produce performances at cultural festivals, including Radha Krishna Sang Phoolon ki Holi and Diwali Fest, where I acquired the values of different abilities.
  • I proudly joined Nukkad Nataks as a volunteer at Synergy and performed in thought-provoking street plays that brought to the fore burning social issues.
  • I was a member of the organizational committees of such events as Basant Utsav and Techno Fest, where I learned to work in a team, manage my time, and exercise my leadership qualities.
  • Attended university workshops, including The Art of Storytelling and E-Literature Odyssey, from which I gained a greater appreciation of the written and oral traditions of storytelling.
  • One of the most memorable moments was receiving the gold medal in the 11th Convocation of 2025, when I was awarded based on my academic performance and general contribution to the university.

Such events were not only about involvement but also about self-development and self-confidence, finding out new means of showing my love for literature and communication.

Faculty Who Inspire

The English Department professors are amazing. They are scholars, writers, researchers, and most importantly, enthusiastic teachers. It can make complex literary theory less complex or challenge us to think differently about the world, but it has made me think, write and express myself differently.

They are kind, highly educated, and always supportive. Most of them also attend national and international conferences and often bring us along as observers or helpers, and this gives us a small sample of what may be happening in academia outside the campus.

Life on Campus as a PG Student

The perks of being a postgraduate student exist. Campus life is as lively as ever, yet there is also something stable and adult-like in the way that we interact.

  • I spend hours in the central library reading literary journals and rare books.
  • Several hours a day, laughter, chai, and literary gossip often spice the group study sessions in the classroom.
  • And yes, I still love my breaks at the campus cafeteria, but more as a reflection place than a mere relaxation place.

Looking Ahead

As I am stepping into my second and last year of master's studies, I am more ready than ever to face the next stage of my life, which will be research, teaching, or content writing.

SGT has not only developed my academic interests but has also developed me as a thinker, communicator, and person. Now I stride these corridors without being afraid, not just because I have learned where I am but because I have learned what I have become.

Final Thoughts

SGT University has served as my platform of transformation, as I went from being a wide-eyed wanderer in my undergraduate days to an intellectual explorer in my master's. To any student who may be asking himself whether SGT could do anything beyond giving him a degree, the answer is an emphatic yes.

It is a community, a challenge, and a canvas to write your story.

We're here to help you shape the future.
