In an inspiring move, SGT University’s Centre for Excellence Andragogical and Pedagogical Sciences (CEAPS) collaborated with Skills and Education Group (SEG), UK, to launch a three-month faculty training program. This venture, under the theme ‘‘Innovative Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Strategies, was a demonstration of the reform in the teaching strategies at SGT University through the integration of international knowledge.

The program started on April 11, 2024, and employed a combination of face-to-face and virtual delivery of courses. Online sessions for three months were followed by face-to-face assessment meetings on June 19–20, 2024, chaired by distinguished UK facilitators Ms. Jo Shirley and Dr. Alison Scott. This experimental approach enabled the program to remain current and engage in constant experimentation with teaching practice.

Platforms like SWAYAM, NPTEL, and Coursera have gained popularity, offering online courses from renowned Indian and international universities.

Another notable feature of the program was the extra “Emerging Leaders” session that took place on June 21. This session focused on the fundamentals of coaching and mentoring as well as the models and tools necessary to apply in a teaching environment. The participants got to know the differences between coaching and mentoring and how coaching can instigate positive change and enhance the development of expansive workplaces.

The “Emerging Leaders” session discussed various aspects, such as the theory of flow, different kinds of coaching models and the characteristics of successful coaches. Coaching topics also included the GROW model, the use of coaching questions, and ways to align coaching with performance management. These concepts were then practised through various exercises where the attendees placed much emphasis on strengths-based coaching and building resilience.

The culminating event of the program was the valedictory ceremony, which took place on June 20, 2024, in the Shooting Floor, A-Block of SGT University. This event marked the end of the three-month training program and also acknowledged the effort demonstrated by the trainees.

Several distinguished guests from SEG, UK, were in attendance, which included the Deputy Chief Executive, Scott Forbes, along with facilitators Ms. Jo Shirley and Dr. Alison Scott. In reward, they took time to give out small tokens of appreciation to each of the trainees in recognition of their effort and accomplishment.

The leadership of SGT University was present in large numbers during this event, with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Atul Sinha, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Anil S. Kumar and the Dean of Academics, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Sinha, among other senior officials. Several deans and directors from the university also gathered to celebrate the achievement marked by this event.

This partnership with SGT University and SEG, UK, is a step in the right direction in the delivery of quality education. This program’s success reflects the institution’s commitment to enhancement and innovation as SGT University continues to strive to advance the quality of education offered across the country. With sustained focus and effort with regard to partnering with universities and colleges across the world and enhancing the capacity of the faculty, the university is set to maintain its stature as one of the premier universities for higher learning in India.
