School of Design Students Visit NITRA, Ghaziabad for Industry Exposure

On March 19th, 2025, students from the School of Design at SGT University embarked on an educational visit to the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) in Ghaziabad. The visit was a fantastic opportunity for students to gain firsthand industry exposure and understand the latest advancements in textile technology and research.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the NITRA team, who introduced them to the organization’s cutting-edge facilities and ongoing research projects. The visit began with an insightful presentation on emerging textile trends, including sustainable fabrics, smart textiles, and innovative manufacturing techniques.

During the visit, students explored NABL-accredited laboratories, toured the textile testing labs, where they observed live demonstrations of fabric quality assessments, colour fastness tests, and performance evaluations. Witnessing the rigorous processes behind quality control gave them a deeper appreciation for the science behind textile production.

The highlight of the visit was the garment manufacturing unit, where students saw the end-to-end production cycle—from pattern making and cutting to stitching and finishing. This real-world exposure helped bridge the gap between their classroom learning and industry practices.

Throughout the visit, NITRA experts engaged with the students, answering questions and sharing valuable insights about career opportunities in textile research and manufacturing. Their practical advice and industry experiences were both inspiring and informative.
