Cinema Beyond Borders: How Spaghetti Westerns Redefined Hollywood and World Cinema

The students of School of Mass Communication and Media Technology, SGT University attended a thought-provoking session under the theme Cinema Beyond Borders, focusing on the impact of Spaghetti Westerns on Hollywood and global cinema at American Center, New Delhi.

During the engaging panel discussion, experts highlighted that Spaghetti Western subgenre films set in the 19th-century American West but produced by Italian filmmakers, played a vital role in reshaping cinematic storytelling. Unlike traditional Hollywood Westerns, these films stood out with their low-budget sets and costumes, stylized cinematography featuring dramatic close-up shots, and vivid, graphic-driven opening credits. The session emphasized how these creative choices not only redefined audience expectations but also influenced generations of filmmakers across the world.

The discussion was followed by a special screening of Sergio Leone’s iconic classic film- The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, a landmark 1966 Spaghetti Western. Students experienced first-hand the raw style, memorable characters, and Ennio Morricone’s unforgettable music score that made the film a global cinematic treasure.

The Western Wednesday screening witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of the School of Mass Communication and Media Technology, who explored how cinema transcends boundaries of culture and geography while continuing to inspire filmmakers worldwide.
