Approach to Diagnosis of Glial Neoplasms

A Guest lecture cum workshop on Approach to glial neoplasms was organized by the Department of Pathology, FMHS, SGT University on Friday, 08 Dec 23, 0930 h onwards at C Block, attended by all the faculty members and PG students of the Department of Pathology. The Guest speaker was by Brig (Dr) KR Rathi, Professor of Pathology, Al Falah Medical College, Faridabad. The inauguration of the event was graced by Dr Sham Singla.

The above was conducted in three sessions. The first session comprised normal anatomy and histology of the brain and recent updates in diffuse adult brain tumours. The second session consisted of the tumours of Paediatric age group and other neoplasms involving the brain. Recent diagnostic updates in accordance with WHO 2021 were highlighted, which primarily included molecular diagnostic aspects, which are relevant as it impacts treatment and prognosis of the patients. The third session comprised a Histopathology slide seminar demonstrating diagnostic challenges in interpretation of such tumours. The session lasted for nearly 4 hours.

Overall, it was an enriching experience for all the PG residents and faculty. Considerable interest was evoked among the audience with excellent interaction during the question and answer sessions. Some photographs of the event are placed as enclosure.
