Prof. (Dr.) Poornima Baliga Bantwal

Dr. Poornima Baliga completed her MBBS and MD in Pathology at Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangalore, in 1983 and 1988. She began her career as a Lecturer in KMC’s Pathology Department, later serving in various academic and administrative roles across MAHE campuses in Mangalore, Manipal, Sikkim, and Jamshedpur. Her tenure as Dean of KMC Manipal (2015-2017) saw significant advancements, including the introduction of a Competence-Based Curriculum, e-learning platforms, and the establishment of Manipal as a center for USMLE and NBME exams.

From 2017 to 2019, she served as Pro Vice Chancellor – Faculty of Health Sciences, implementing MAHE’s Strategic Plan. As Dean of Manipal TATA Medical College, Jamshedpur, she secured essential approvals during the pandemic. A researcher with numerous publications, Dr. Baliga also enjoys Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music, cooking, reading, and travel. Her leadership inspires collaboration and academic excellence.

Recognizing ability to radiate the ethos of MAHE she was appointed as the Dean of Manipal TATA Medical College, Jamshedpur on its inception. A goal-oriented leader and with passion for academics she successfully obtained the letter of intent for the institution even during the difficult times of pandemic. With her open-door approach to the staff and students, she was able to bind people to work together during the difficult time of pandemic.
