This blog talks about a project presented by the students of the Faculty of Education at SGT University for the Synergy 2024 Tech Fest. It presents a modern solution to efficiently assess the ISL skills of hard-of-hearing individuals.

Problem Statement

Traditional methods of assessing sign language skills can be subjective and inconsistent, often varying between evaluators. The lack of standardised, objective evaluation methods for Indian Sign Language (ISL) proficiency creates inconsistencies in assessment, hindering educational progress and professional opportunities for the deaf community.

Potential Solution

In recent years, technology has been a game-changer in enhancing accessibility and inclusivity, especially for individuals with hearing impairments. One innovative project making strides in this domain is "Signalyze," a technology-based evaluation system designed to support Indian Sign Language (ISL).

Understanding Signalyze

Signalyze provides a structured, objective assessment system powered by technology. This tool will allow for consistent evaluations, offering a standardised approach that aligns with the linguistic nuances and cultural specifics of ISL.

Goals and Impact

The primary goal of Signalyze is to create a dependable framework for assessing ISL skills in an educational context. By ensuring accuracy in evaluation, this system enhances the quality of ISL education and helps identify areas where learners may need additional support.

The long-term impact extends beyond classrooms, as standardising ISL evaluation can also improve job placement opportunities for deaf individuals by validating their communication skills in a measurable way.

Future Prospects
