The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Physiotherapy at the School of Physiotherapy, SGT University, successfully organized a comprehensive Antenatal Physiotherapy Health Camp on 9th December 2025. The event was conducted under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Priyanka Rishi (HOD, OBG Physiotherapy) and was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Renuka, whose meticulous planning and supervision ensured the smooth execution of every activity. The primary aim of the camp was to create awareness among expectant mothers regarding safe antenatal practices, evidence-based physiotherapy interventions, and preventive strategies that can greatly enhance maternal comfort and promote healthy pregnancy outcomes. With pregnancy being a crucial period marked by physiological, biomechanical, and emotional changes, the camp emphasized the importance of early physiotherapy guidance to help women maintain optimal posture, reduce discomfort, and prepare their bodies for childbirth. Students of MPT 1st Year (OBG) and BPT 4th Year played an active and enthusiastic role throughout the event. Under faculty supervision, they assisted in conducting assessments, guiding the participants, demonstrating exercises, and providing individualized physiotherapy prescriptions based on each woman’s specific needs. Their involvement not only enriched the learning experience but also strengthened their clinical confidence in managing antenatal clients. The camp offered a variety of focused interventions and educational components, including: Ergonomics and Posture Correction: Participants received personalized advice on maintaining correct posture during daily activities such as sitting, standing, lifting, and sleeping. Proper ergonomics help reduce common pregnancy-related discomforts and prevent musculoskeletal strain. Swiss Ball Exercises: Demonstrations included gentle pelvic mobility drills, relaxation techniques, and core stabilization exercises using the Swiss ball. These exercises are especially beneficial during pregnancy for improving balance, promoting flexibility, and preparing the pelvic floor for labor. TheraBand Strengthening: Safe and structured strengthening routines using TheraBands were introduced to enhance muscular endurance, upper and lower limb strength, and overall antenatal conditioning. Such exercises help expectant mothers stay active, energized, and physically prepared for the demands of childbirth. Additionally, specific exercise protocols were shared for managing common pregnancy-related conditions such as low back pain, sacroiliac (SI) joint pain, pelvic discomfort, pedal edema, and sciatica. Many participants expressed relief after learning simple yet effective techniques to manage these symptoms at home. The camp saw the enthusiastic participation of around 20 antenatal women, all of whom actively engaged in the sessions, asked questions, and showed genuine interest in incorporating physiotherapy into their daily routine. Their positive feedback highlighted the relevance and need for such community-based health initiatives. Overall, the Antenatal Physiotherapy Health Camp served as a meaningful platform that strengthened community outreach while providing invaluable hands-on learning opportunities for students specializing in women’s health physiotherapy.
