Basant Utsav 2026 at SGT University Celebrates “Women in Agriculture” with National and International Participation

SGT University, Gurugram successfully organized Basant Utsav 2026 on 9 th February, 2026, its flagship annual flower show, continuing a legacy of over seven years as a major academic and outreach initiative of the University.

The theme of this year’s festival, “Women in Agriculture,” recognized the transformative role of women across the agricultural value chain as cultivators, entrepreneurs, scientists, innovators, and custodians of traditional knowledge. The theme was meaningfully reflected in the active participation of women-led enterprises from Haryana and Delhi NCR and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from Alwar, Rajasthan who were provided a dedicated platform to showcase their agricultural produce, value-added products, and rural enterprise initiatives.

The event was graced by Dr. R. K. Yadav, Director, ICAR - Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI), Karnal, as Chief Guest. The festival also welcomed Mr. Atul Jain, Vice Chairman, Deendayal Research Institute (DRI), as Guest of Honour. Dr. Amit Kumar Goswami, Senior Scientist, ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, attended as Special Guest.

Adding an international dimension, Dr. Sara Yanovsky, Political Affairs Advisor (Domestic), Embassy of Israel in India, attended as Special Guest, reflecting the importance of global dialogue and cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors.

The inauguration was held in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Atul Nasa, Pro-Vice Chancellor, SGT University. The event was organized under the leadership of Dr. Pooja Pant, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, whose vision and guidance, along with the dedicated efforts of faculty members, staff, and students, ensured the grand success of the festival.

Basant Utsav 2026 featured competitions on flower group arrangements, bouquet making, fruit carving, waste-to-art, pot painting, rangoli, poster making, spring costume walk, dance and singing competitions, and digital engagement initiatives. With strong public participation and diverse stakeholder engagement, Basant Utsav 2026 reaffirmed SGT University’s commitment to promoting floriculture as a sunrise industry with immense potential for employment, entrepreneurship, and inclusive agricultural development.
