The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, SGT University organized a Farmers Awareness Programme on “Balanced Fertilizer Use” at Village Mankrola, District Gurugram, Haryana, under the initiative “Samajik Vikas, SGT Ka Prayas.” The programme witnessed the participation of 45 farmers, including 24 women farmers.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Pooja Pant, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, SGT University, and was aligned with the Government of India’s “Khet Bachao Abhiyan,” which promotes balanced fertilizer use, soil health conservation, and sustainable agricultural practices among farmers.

In her inaugural address, Dr. Pooja Pant highlighted the importance of balanced fertilizer application for improving crop productivity, maintaining soil health, and protecting the environment. She emphasized that excessive and indiscriminate use of urea not only affects crop productivity but also contributes to environmental degradation, particularly groundwater pollution, which has become a major concern in agricultural regions.

She further encouraged farmers to cultivate Dhaincha as a green manure crop before sowing kharif crops and to adopt natural farming practices for improving soil fertility, reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers, and promoting sustainable agricultural production.

The programme commenced with an introductory address by Dr. Om Prakash, Professor, Department of Social Sciences, who emphasized the importance of scientific nutrient management in improving soil fertility and ensuring sustainable crop production.

Expert sessions were delivered by Dr. Azad Singh Panwar, Professor, Department of Natural Resource Management (Sustainable Farming Systems), and Dr. Shakti Om Pathak, Assistant Professor, Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, SGT University. The experts highlighted the importance of balanced fertilizer application, soil health management, and sustainable agricultural practices for enhancing long-term productivity and environmental conservation.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Manjeet, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Sciences, and Dr. Rajesh Mor, Assistant Professor, Department of Horticulture Science, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, SGT University.

The farmers actively interacted with the experts and expressed enthusiasm towards adopting improved agricultural practices. They also requested SGT University to organize more training programmes on improved production technologies, soil health management, and water conservation practices to enhance crop productivity under resource-constrained conditions.

Sh. Ramchandra Singh, Sarpanch of the village, appreciated the efforts of SGT University in supporting farmers through guidance on the latest agricultural technologies and expressed satisfaction with the university’s contribution towards the welfare of the farming community.

The Faculty expressed gratitude to Village Sarpanch Sh. Ramchander Ji, Mr. Sumit Ji, faculty members, volunteers, and the farming community for their active participation and support in making the programme successful.
