Dr. Bhawna Kalra

Dr. Bhawna Kalra is an Associate Professor of Genetics at SGT University with extensive experience in teaching, research, and academic administration. She holds a Ph.D. in Genetics and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Haifa, Israel. Her research integrates classical and molecular genetics with agricultural applications, focusing on vegetable breeding, climate stress biology, and waste valorisation. She has served as Principal Investigator on DBT BioCare and UCOST-funded projects. Her research includes mutational breeding in sponge gourd for improved yield and stress tolerance. She has published over 22 research papers (including SCI-indexed journals), 8 book chapters, and holds 4 patents. She has received prestigious fellowships such as CSIR-SRF/RA and Indo-Israel Fellowship, along with international travel grants. She actively mentors Ph.D. and postgraduate students and contributes as reviewer/editor for reputed journals.
