Overview

The M.Sc.(Ag) in Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry program is an advanced postgraduate course designed to develop in-depth expertise in soil systems, nutrient dynamics, and the chemical processes governing agricultural productivity. The program focuses on understanding soil as a dynamic natural resource and its critical role in sustainable crop production, environmental quality, and ecosystem functioning.

The curriculum integrates core concepts of soil chemistry, soil fertility, plant nutrition, and bio-geochemical cycles with modern analytical techniques and research methodologies. Students are trained in advanced laboratory practices, including soil and plant analysis, spectroscopy and environmental monitoring of pollutants such as heavy metals. Emphasis is placed on nutrient management strategies, soil health assessment, carbon sequestration, and the application of emerging technologies such as nano fertilizers and precision agriculture.

Through a combination of theoretical learning, laboratory experimentation, and field- based research, students develop strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills. The program encourages critical evaluation of scientific data and promotes innovation in addressing contemporary challenges like soil degradation, climate change, and sustainable agriculture.
