Women Issues in Sports

On Nov 29, 2024 The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and Faculty of Physiotherapy visited the Sports Authority of India along with students and faculty members (Dr. Vatsala Saharan, Dr. Deepali Sharma and Dr. Pooja Bhati, respectively. It was a one day conference on 'Women Issues in Sports'. The event took place at DADA LAKHMI CHAND STATE UNIVERSITY, ROHTAK, HARYANA.
The event featured two engaging panel discussions with renowned Commonwealth and Olympic athletes, including Ms. Ranirampal, Ms. Annu Rani, Ms. Pritam Rani Siwach, and Ms. Nitu Ghangas. These athletes shared their personal experiences, discussed the obstacles they faced as women in sports, and addressed key issues such as lack of equal opportunities, media coverage, and support for female athletes. The panel discussions provided valuable insights into how women can overcome barriers in sports and encouraged the audience to push for greater inclusivity and recognition in the sporting world. Following the panel discussions, the event continued with informative lectures by distinguished guests Ms. Rachna Govil and Dr. Gulshan Lal Khanna. Ms. Govil delivered a lecture on Gender Equality in Sports, emphasizing the importance of creating an environment where women have the same opportunities to excel in sports as their male counterparts. Dr. Khanna’s session focused on Hydration Strategies for Female Athletes, educating the participants about the specific hydration needs of women athletes to optimize their performance and overall health. Thereafter, various renowned experts in the area of sports sciences delivered insightful sessions on various issues faced by women athletes in sports. It was a highly insightful event that shed light on key women’s issues in sports and provided practical knowledge for aspiring athletes. We thank the organizers for providing us with the opportunity to participate in this remarkable event.
