The Centre of Excellence in Deep Technology (CoEDT)

The Centre of Excellence in Deep Technology (CoEDT) focuses on sustainable energy, advanced energy storage, and climate engineering to address critical 21st-century challenges. The centre develops green deep-tech solutions, including robotic systems for handling and recycling spent batteries, enabling a circular economy. CoEDT advances next-generation Advanced Chemistry Cells while supporting deep-tech startups by solving fundamental science and engineering problems.

Energy and energy storage technologies, alongside environmental and climate engineering, are the lifelines of 21st-century socioeconomic growth and prosperity. However, the rapid industrialization of energy storage devices poses significant challenges to climate sustainability, resource security, and global geopolitical balance. The Centre of Excellence in Deep Technology (CoEDT) is dedicated to developing technology-driven, sustainable green solutions across the energy and storage ecosystem. A key focus area is the design and deployment of advanced robotic systems for the safe handling, disassembly, and recycling of spent energy storage devices, enabling a robust circular economy. CoEDT concentrates on leveraging and advancing state-of-the-art technologies to deliver novel, market-ready solutions for complex and often unresolved challenges. In parallel, the center actively pursues the invention of next-generation technologies in the domain of Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC). Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) batteries constitute a foundational deep-technology layer of the global energy transition. They are critical to electric mobility, renewable energy integration, grid stability, and industrial decarbonization. India is rapidly positioning itself as a strategic battery manufacturing and innovation hub, supported by strong policy backing, rising domestic demand, and increasing private capital participation. For investors, the ACC sector in India represents a long-term structural opportunity with multiple value-creation pathways, cell manufacturing, next-generation chemistries, battery management software, and circular economy solutions.

Beyond technology development, CoEDT plays a strategic role in strengthening the deep-tech innovation ecosystem. The centre supports deep-tech startups by addressing fundamental scientific and engineering challenges rather than merely commercializing existing solutions. CoEDT also serves as a coordination platform to align academic research with industrial needs, ensuring effective knowledge transfer, accelerated innovation, and scalable impact.
