An academic site visit to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Tughlakabad, New Delhi was organized on 23 January 2025 for B.Tech. Semester IV and VI (2nd & 3rd Year) students of the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering & Technology, SGT University, Gurugram. The objective of the visit was to connect theoretical concepts with real-time construction practices used in major infrastructure projects.
Students gained practical exposure to the complete construction sequence, including excavation and support systems, base preparation, reinforcement placement, formwork installation, flat slab casting, wall construction, and curing processes. They observed critical reinforcement detailing such as slab–wall junction bars, laps and couplers, cover provisions, and methods to handle congestion near openings and edges.
The visit also highlighted formwork and concreting practices, emphasizing shuttering stability, line and level control, embedded item placement, concrete pumping, compaction, and curing. Additionally, students witnessed strict quality control and safety measures, including material testing, inspection procedures, waterproofing treatments, and safety protocols, making the visit a valuable learning experience.
