Revolutionising English Literature at SGT University
Updated on: June 24, 2026
As we live through the era of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, traditional rote-learning practices no longer serve higher education institutions. At the School of Humanities, Social Sciences & Liberal Arts (SHSL) at SGT University, the department of English and Humanities is receiving a modern upgrade in literature education. Mr Deepak, Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Humanities, is an exemplar of this change, leading the implementation of the globally renowned, innovative P5BL framework for BA English and MA English students.
This learning model bridges the gap between active practice, academic theory and real-life industry requirements. Students are encouraged to treat literary and non-literary texts as live diagnostic tools. For example, Torvald’s nineteenth-century banking institutional reputation management in Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll's House is analysed to understand modern corporate public relations crises.
The P5BL is functionalised through five interconnected cores-
- Problem: Identify and investigate systemic, real-world questions and challenges reflected within classical literature.
- Project: Plan and execute projects within a structured 12-week timeline while effectively managing resources and deliverables.
- Product: Create and present a professional, market-ready output such as a podcast series, creative portfolio, live adaptation, or analytical work.
- Process: Engage in continuous peer review, reflection, and feedback documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- People: Collaborate in clearly defined professional roles, such as Lead Researcher, Content Strategist, or Agile Project Manager, to achieve shared objectives.
Student groups act as professional creative agencies rather than traditional passive classroom consumers. They are well placed to develop highly sought-after industry skills, including content direction, workflow tracking, and auditing.
By embedding the P5BL methodology into the curriculum, Mr Deepak ensures that BA and MA literature degrees from the Department of English and Humanities at SGT University produce critical thinkers ready for the modern workforce.
