Dr. Deepika Chahal
Assistant Professor
Dr Deepika Chahal has recently joined SGT University, Gurugram, as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities, Social Science and Liberal Arts. She holds a PhD in Economics from Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, India’s first state women’s university. Her doctoral research focused on unemployment and socio-economic determinants of labour market outcomes in rural areas, with special reference to Haryana. Before joining SGT University, Dr Chahal served as an Assistant Professor at Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, and earlier worked as a Senior Research Fellow (SRF). She has qualified UGC–NET (JRF) and has a strong background in empirical and policy-oriented research. Dr Chahal has published research papers in Scopus-indexed journals and has actively participated in numerous national and international conferences, where she presented her research work. She has also received academic recognition, including a Best Paper Award at international and national conferences. Her teaching and research interests lie in labour economics, employment and unemployment, rural development, applied econometrics, and socio-economic policy analysis. She actively engages in data-driven research using large-scale datasets such as PLFS and NSO microdata and remains committed to academic excellence, interdisciplinary learning, and student mentorship.
