Dr. Swati Sourav is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Liberal Studies and Social Sciences at SGT University, Gurugram. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her doctoral research, “A Sociological Study of Lived Experiences of Children in the Kosi Flood Basin, Bihar,” explores the intersection of childhood, vulnerability, and disaster through an ethnographic lens. Her academic journey reflects a sustained engagement with questions of risk, resilience, and the lived experiences of children within the broader framework of disaster sociology. Before joining SGT University, Dr. Sourav served as an Academic Counselor at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, and as a Part-Time Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Patna University, Bihar. She has also been associated as a Visiting Faculty with Amity University, Patna. Her research interests span sociology of disaster, childhood studies, vulnerability and resilience, social policy, and qualitative research methodologies. Dr. Sourav’s work has been published in reputed journals such as Indian Anthropologist, Humanities and Social Science Studies, and International Journal of Social Research. She has presented papers in several national and international conferences, including those organized by the Indian Sociological Society and the Institute for Social Development and Research, and has participated in numerous training programmes organized by the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Dr. Sourav is currently engaged in exploring the biopolitics of disaster and the intersectionality of vulnerability, governance, and children’s experiences in post-disaster settings in India.
