The Centre for Constitutional Governance & Human Rights (CCGHR) at the School of Law, SGT University serves as a dynamic academic hub dedicated to fostering advanced scholarship, rigorous research, and meaningful dialogue in the areas of constitutional law, policy governance, and human rights. Embracing contemporary, critical, and comparative perspectives, the Centre strives to deepen understanding and encourage substantive discourse on pressing national and international issues. Through an extensive range of academic engagements including lectures, seminars, symposia, workshops, conferences, panel discussions, jurist sessions, debates, quizzes, and School development programs, the Centre plays an active role in generating and disseminating knowledge. The Centre for Constitutional Governance & Human Rights (CCGHR) further aims to contribute to academic literature through high-quality publications. With a strong commitment to student participation, the Centre ensures that learners gain valuable practical exposure and develop essential competencies across the diverse landscape of constitutional governance and human rights.
The School of Law has consistently demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence and constitutional scholarship. As part of our ongoing efforts to foster critical engagement with constitutional discourse, the School initiated the Annual Academic Lecture Series on Constitutional Law-Edition I, 2024 commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Constitution of India. Building upon the resounding success of the inaugural series, the Annual Academic Lecture Series on Constitutional Law-Edition II was organized from 22nd November 2025 to 28th November 2025, aims to continue the tradition of bringing together eminent constitutional scholars, jurists, and thought leaders to engage with contemporary constitutional challenges and celebrate the enduring vision of our Constitution.
The inaugural edition of the Annual Academic Lecture Series on Constitutional Law-Edition I held from 25th to 30th November 2024, brought together eminent constitutional luminaries including Hon’ble Mr. Justice Swatanter Kumar (Former Chairperson, National Green Tribunal), Hon’ble Mr. Justice Kurian Joseph (Former Judge, Supreme Court of India), Hon’ble Mr. Justice Govind Mathur (Former Chief Justice, Allahabad High Court), Prof. (Dr.) T.V. Subba Rao (Professor Emeritus, VIPS, Delhi; Former Chairperson, Postgraduate Council, NLSIU Bangalore), Prof. (Dr.) R. Venkata Rao (Vice Chancellor, IIULER; Former Vice Chancellor, NLSIU Bangalore), and Mr. Sudhir Mishra (Founder & Managing Partner-Trust Legal; Advocate, Supreme Court of India). Inaugurated under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Richa Chaudhary, Dean, School of Law, the series witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, School, and the wider legal fraternity. Building on the resounding success of the 2024 edition, which featured leading voices from the judiciary and academia, the Distinguished Lecture Series has now evolved into an annual flagship academic initiative dedicated to fostering constitutional discourse and advancing legal scholarship in India.
THE ANNUAL ACADEMIC LECTURE SERIES ON CONSTITUTIONAL LAW-EDITION II 2025
The second edition of Annual Academic Lecture Series on Constitutional Law-Edition II 2025 held from 22nd to 28th November 2025. The week-long series aims to bring together eminent judges, jurists, and academics to foster meaningful discourse on contemporary constitutional themes. The Annual Academic Lecture Series on Constitutional Law-Edition II 2025 was graced by eminent legal luminaries including Professor (Dr.) Upendra Baxi, Emeritus Professor of Law, Universities of Warwick and Delhi, Hon’ble Justice C.S. Dias, Judge, Kerala High Court, Professor (Dr.) T.V. Subba Rao, Professor-Emeritus, VIPS, Delhi, Formerly Chairperson-Postgraduate Council, National Law School of India University, Bangalore, Professor (Dr.) V. Vijaykumar, Professor of Eminence and Academic Advisor, Former Vice-Chancellor, National Law Institute University, Bhopal, Professor (Dr.) S. Sivakumar, Senior Professor at the Indian Law Institute, President, Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) and Professor (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Vice- Chancellor, Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur. Inaugurated under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Richa Chaudhary, Dean, School of Law, the series witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, School, and the wider legal fraternity. The second edition of Annual Academic Lecture Series on Constitutional Law-Edition II 2025 covered different legal topics addressed by the dignitaries including an incisive exploration of the dynamic nature of the Indian Constitution and the significant transformation of legal education over the decades, the evolving judicial paradigm, emphasizing the proactive and responsive role of constitutional courts in contemporary governance.
SGT University’s Faculty of Law, through the Centre for Constitutional Governance and Human Rights (CCGHR) and in collaboration with the Advanced Study Institute of Asia (ASIA), proudly launched "The Living Constitution – Digital Museum of the Constitution of India."
This landmark event successfully bridged the gap between Black Letter Law and the lived experiences of citizens, offering a curated digital space where students and faculty can directly engage with primary historical sources like Parliamentary debates and National Archives.
Highlights & Insights from Distinguished Guests
The event brought together eminent jurists, human rights authorities, and senior administrators to discuss the Constitution not just as a book of laws, but as the foundation of our democracy:
- Padma Bhushan Shri Ram Bahadur Rai (Chancellor, SGT University): Applauded the digital museum as a pioneering step in tech-driven constitutional awareness, noting with pride that SGT is now the second university in India to develop such a platform.
- Shri Priyank Kanoongo (Chairperson, NHRC): Delivered a thought-provoking address on how the Constitution must remain responsive to shifting social and economic landscapes, and cautioned against comparing Indian constitutional values out of context with other jurisdictions.
- Shri Najeeb Jung (Chair, ASIA): Emphasized the critical importance of the Basic Structure Doctrine in safeguarding the rule of law, federalism, and constitutional morality.
- Amogh Dev Rai (Director Research, ASIA): Reminded the audience that the Constitution belongs to the people—not just lawyers or politicians—and must be actively engaged with rather than passively revered.
Key Outcomes
The launch produced immediate, measurable impacts for the university's academic framework:
- The Digital Commemorative Portal: The event culminated in the launch of a permanent digital portal hosting constitutional archives for internal academic use.
- Pioneering Status: SGT University solidified its position as a national leader in constitutional innovation by becoming the second university in India to establish a digital e-museum of this kind.
- Enhanced Constitutional Literacy: Students and faculty now have a sustained, interactive platform to explore constitutional history and interdisciplinary research.
The Path Forward
To ensure the momentum of this initiative extends well beyond a single day, the university has outlined several exciting next steps:
- Continuously update the Digital Commemorative Portal with new judgments, archival content, and constitutional materials.
- Establish an annual Constitutional Literacy Week under the CCGHR.
- Partner with the NHRC and ASIA for future research and advocacy initiatives.
