ABOUT THE COMPETITON

The Dr. Lalit Bhasin 1st International Mediation Competition, 2026, organised by the Faculty of Law, SGT University, is a pioneering academic initiative aimed at strengthening mediation culture in India through community-centred dispute resolution. Rooted in the ethos of the traditional Panchayat system and guided by modern mediation ethics, the competition seeks to bridge the gap between formal legal education and grassroots justice mechanisms. It provides a unique platform for students to engage with real-life socio-legal disputes commonly faced by villages and urban neighbourhoods. Participants will be challenged to apply principles of neutrality, dialogue, cultural sensitivity, and constitutional values in resolving conflicts. The competition emphasises solution-centric mediation over adversarial approaches, fostering empathy, negotiation skills, and practical legal understanding. Through this initiative, the University aspires to nurture socially responsible mediators equipped to deliver accessible, sustainable, and inclusive justice.
