This blog talks about the inventions of college students at Synergy 2024, a landmark tech fest hosted annually by SGT University, one of the best colleges in Haryana.

Introduction

"The world today sees India as the incubator of innovation."

This sentiment, echoed by our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is reflective of the ingenuity and confidence that are abundantly present in the India of today. Its youth, especially, are teeming with ideas that look to shape better realities for us all. That is why, to realise PM Modi's vision of a "Viksit Bharat," it is important that this generation be empowered with all the resources they require to experiment and create the next big disruptions.

In that vein, SGT University conceptualised its marquee fest, SYNERGY, hoping for it to be their contribution towards the nation's future. First launched in 2017, this grand three-day event will recently conclude its 7th rendition, SYNERGY 2024, held from 16-18th October 2024.

Throughout the event, more than 200 student projects were displayed, covering areas such as healthcare, future tech, sustainability, and societal development. In this blog, we'll take you through all the different fields and disciplines that were covered across the gamut of innovations at Synergy 2024, including what those innovations were and what they were looking to solve.

Engineering

  • Wireless Charging System: This invention eliminates the need for physical connectors for charging electric vehicles by providing a "charging platform," on which one has to merely park their vehicles and leave for charging. This low-cost and scalable solution looked to address India's infrastructural challenges to scale EV growth and blew away the judges at Synergy 2024, securing top honours in the "Future Tech and Innovation" category.
  • Maruti 800 EV: An RC Maruti 800, retrofitted into a fully functioning electric vehicle with a claimed range of 180 km. This is not a concept but a reality brought to life by bright young minds. This project was a remarkable display of the affordability of the EV transition.
  • Writing Board for Autistic Children: Uses light and motion sensors to inculcate the habit of writing and holding objects in children on the spectrum. This helps them to take the next step in their learning.
  • Sensobionic Hand: An advanced prosthetic device that is used to give real-time sensory feedback to its users, simulating the senses of touch, temperature, and proprioception (sense of body position, movement, and force). This solution can improve the reliability of bionic devices and make them last longer.

Science

  • Forensic Rover: A mobile investigative device that can be used to access, search, photograph, and even record all kinds of evidence in certain "inaccessible areas" of a crime scene.
  • Formulation of Water-Repellent for Windscreen Using Green & Sustainable Material: A new compound that can be used on the windscreens of four-wheelers will help raindrops "roll off" the surface rather than "wipe them out." This should lead to better road safety and visibility in turbulent conditions.
  • NanoGuard: A robust and accurate sensor device that uses nanotechnology to detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other environmental pollutants in the air. This is a more user-friendly and accurate system that can help detect airborne toxins that slowly affect us all.

Agriculture

  • Seed Driller for Vegetables: An automated solution to distribute vegetable seeds, which are smaller in size and difficult to sow by hand. A cost-efficient alternative for small and marginal farmers who cannot afford big drillers.
  • Smart Grain Storage Bin: Uses smart technology for better grain management. The main objective is to reduce post-harvest losses, maintain grain quality, and provide real-time monitoring.
  • Summer-Sustainable Bee-Hive: An all-season solution that can help in reducing bee colony losses during times of harsh weather, be it extreme summers or winters. For honey farmers, this means increased output and profits. For researchers, this is a better way to monitor and collect data on colonies.

Education

  • QR Aid: Accessible QR codes that can help visually impaired and deaf users access information through sign-language videos and audio. Proper integration can help differently-abled individuals become more independent shoppers, thereby helping consumer brands access a whole new demographic.
  • Braille Labeling of Pharmaceutical Products: Being in the dark about matters regarding your health is scary for us all. And even scarier for visually challenged individuals. Proper Braille labelling can help reduce medication errors by making it easier to identify and self-administer the correct medication.

Physiotherapy

  • SpineSense: A posture measuring and correcting device for people with sedentary lifestyles. It gives vibratory feedback when a person is in an abnormal posture, along with an email notification.
  • Aqua Podiatric Exercise Platform: A non-conventional alternative for foot injury rehabilitation where hydrotherapy is used to provide added dynamic resistance. Incorporates foot arch correctors and theraband resistance to promote movement and improve outcomes.

Nursing

  • Digi-Health Care Bag: A multi-use carrier bag that enables healthcare workers to collect real-time health data and perform on-the-spot diagnostics. Enables greater accessibility to rural and remote areas, helping provide efficient, on-the-go healthcare.
  • OxyEase: A "Smart Oxygen Administration Trolley" that combines traditional techniques with smart technology to automate flow regulation and monitor oxygen levels in real time. Enhances safety with automated alarms and leak detection, while reducing risks of cylinder depletion or equipment failure.
  • CERVISHIELD: Prevents cervical injury during biker road accidents by using pressure sensors and an airbag on the back of the helmet.

Allied Health

  • Sensory Spectrum: A glove that assists colour-blind individuals in colour perception by giving tactile sensation. Uses a colour sensor, ESP expansion boards, a DF player with an SD card, microprocessors, speakers, and a breadboard to help identify basic colours like red, green, and blue.
  • Assistive Technology for Visually-Impaired: Spectacles for the visually impaired that are attached to a speaker and connected to a smartphone, helping them navigate their surroundings by giving directional audio input. Echolocation for humans, if one might say so.

Conclusion: Where the Best Get Better

Synergy 2024 once again proved to be an immense platform for the best and the brightest in Delhi NCR. Across the 200+ innovations on display, we got to see solutions for a whole range of medical, technological, psychological, agricultural, and educational issues (amongst many others). It showed us that the next generation is already two steps ahead of us and that they are definitely going to change the world for the absolute best.

At SGT University, we look forward to boosting imaginations and forcing our students to think about anything and everything. As we continue to emboss ourselves as one of the best colleges in Haryana, we can't wait to see how Synergy 2025 can top what happened this year.

We're here to help you shape the future.
