Students from the School of Emerging Media, Communication & Film Studies (SMCF), SGT University, brought laurels to the institution by securing a remarkable victory at 'Amiphoria 2026', the prestigious cultural fest hosted by Amity University Punjab, held on 26–27 March 2026 in Mohali.
The event witnessed intense competition with participation from multiple universities, where 19 short films were showcased under the “Director’s Cut” filmmaking category. Demonstrating exceptional storytelling and technical excellence, the SMCF team emerged as the winner, securing the Best Film Award along with a cash prize of ₹5000.
The winning short film, “Earphone – A Virus”, written and directed by Harshit Tyagi, a
first-year BAJMC student,
presented a compelling social message on the harmful effects of careless and excessive
earphone usage. The film
creatively highlighted how such habits can lead to accidents, social isolation, and
long-term hearing damage,
effectively drawing parallels with the spread of a virus.
Entirely conceptualized and produced by students, the film stood out for its strong
cinematography, meaningful shot
composition, engaging narrative structure, and impactful message. The jury particularly
appreciated the film’s realistic
portrayal and technical finesse, which played a crucial role in securing the top
position.
This achievement reflects the dynamic learning environment at SMCF, SGT University,
where students are encouraged to
translate theoretical knowledge into practical, real-world creative outputs. It also
underscores the institution’s
growing recognition in the field of media and film education at inter-university
platforms.
The accomplishment of winning the Best Film Award at Amity University, Mohali, is a
testament to the dedication,
creativity, and collaborative spirit of the students. It reaffirms SGT University’s
commitment to nurturing future media
professionals capable of producing meaningful and socially relevant cinema.
