SMCF Students Explore the World of Professional Broadcasting at All India Radio

From Classroom to Broadcasting Station : SMCF Students Explore the World of Professional Broadcasting at All India Radio

Learning stepped beyond the classroom for students of the School of Emerging Media, Communication & Film Studies (SMCF), SGT University, as they visited All India Radio (AIR), New Delhi, as part of an industry exposure and experiential learning initiative. The visit gave students an opportunity to experience the working environment of a professional radio station and understand how the concepts they study in classrooms are applied in the real world. Students observed how radio programmes are presented, how live broadcasts are managed, and how recording, dubbing and other studio processes are handled. As part of the visit, students explored the Newsroom, Dubbing Studio, FM Gold and FM Rainbow studios. They got a closer look at the different stages of radio production, from planning and scheduling programmes to recording, production and broadcasting. The interaction also helped them understand the coordination and teamwork required to take a programme from an idea to the airwaves. One of the most memorable moment of the visit was the Bapu Studio, which also carries a significant historical connection with Mahatma Gandhi. This experience allowed students to look at radio not only as a technology driven medium but also as a part of India’s communication and broadcasting history. For the students, the visit was an opportunity to see the professional side of radio broadcasting. It helped them relate their classroom learning to actual industry practices and gain a better understanding of the different roles, responsibilities and workflows involved in radio production. Event coordinator emphasized that industry exposure is an essential part of media education. Such visits give students the chance to observe professionals at work, understand industry expectations and develop a more practical perspective towards their future careers in media and communication.
