Case based approach to bone marrow interpretation
A Guest lecture cum workshop on ‘Case based approach to bone marrow interpretation’ was organized by the Department of Pathology, FMHS, SGT University on Monday, 6 October 25 at 09.30 am onwards at C Block, attended by all the faculty members and PG students of the ”department of Pathology.
1. Introduction to event:
The subject expert speaker, Dr. Ankita Jaiswal is a renowned expert & an accomplished gold medalist Haematopathologist with over 12 years of experience in diagnostic haematology and flow cytometry. Trained in MBBS and MD (Pathology) from BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, with a PDCC in Haematopathology from the Indian College of Pathologists. Currently leading the Haematopathology and Flow cytometry division at Core Diagnostics-Metropolis, Gurugram with expertise in onco-haematology, bone marrow morphology, immunohistochemistry, advanced flow cytometry (including MRD), and NGS for myeloid malignancies.
Passionate educator and speaker with national and international teaching experience in haematopathology through CMEs, workshops, and conferences. She is a cofounder of an online teaching platform “E- medi academy” committed in bridging the gap from bench to bedside. She has numerous publications to her credit in indexed publications.
She was introduced to the audience by Dr Rajeev Sen, HOD Pathology, FMHS.
Dr. Sansar Chand Sharma (Dean) and Dr. Maha Singh- AMS graced the inauguration of the
event.
2. Objective of the event:
Recent diagnostic updates in accordance with current guidelines , detailed peripheral smear, bone marrow aspirate and bone marrow biopsy examination was highlighted. These have much relevance due to it’s impact on understanding the sub cellular alterations leading to disease, therapeutic implications for targeted therapy and risk stratification / prognostic aspects of the patients.
3. Benefit in terms of learning/skill/knowledge obtained:
The above was conducted in three sessions. The first session comprised seminar on interesting cases of bone marrow aspirate and biopsy followed by a second session consisted of hematopathology slide seminar for the PG Residents. The session lasted for 3 hours.
Overall, it was an enriching experience for all the PG residents and faculty. Considerable interest was evoked among the audience with excellent interaction during the question and answer sessions. Some photographs of the event are placed as an enclosure.
