                        Guest Lecture on the “World Breastfeeding Week”
Introduction:
World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from 1st to 7th August to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and to encourage efforts in supporting it globally. The Department of Pediatrics organized a series of activities on 1st August 2025 under the theme "Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems." The event included expert talks, interactive sessions, and creative activities, aimed at sensitizing healthcare providers and the community on the role they play in promoting and sustaining breastfeeding practices.
Objective of the webinar/Event:
- To highlight the importance of breastfeeding for both mother and child.
- To educate healthcare professionals on how to support breastfeeding within health systems.
- To raise awareness about family, workplace, and community-based support.
- To provide practical guidance on implementing breastfeeding-friendly policies.
- To engage nursing staff through a creative Rangoli competition that reflects breastfeeding awareness.
Brief content of lecture
The Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS), SGT University, organized a Guest Lecture as part of the World Breastfeeding Week 2025 observance, held from 1st to 7th August 2025. This global health initiative, supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), emphasizes the importance of breastfeeding for the health and well-being of both infants and mothers.
The theme for this year, “Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable
                                Support Systems,” highlights the need to
                                establish long-term, multi-sectoral support for breastfeeding at all levels—including
                                families, communities, workplaces,
                                and health systems.
                                
To mark the occasion, a series of academic lectures were conducted on 1st August
                                2025 at
                                the Hospital Auditorium.
                                Eminent speakers from the field of Pediatrics and Neonatology shared their insights on
                                creating a breastfeeding-friendly
                                environment and addressing the challenges faced by breastfeeding mothers, especially in
                                the workplace. 
The event was held under the leadership of Dr. Dheeraj Bahl,
                                Professor & Head, Department of Pediatrics (Organizing
                                Chairperson), with coordination by Dr. Payal. All aspects of the program were conducted
                                with great enthusiasm and
                                commitment, resulting in a highly successful session with maximum participation from all
