Management of Asphyxiated Newborn
Introduction
New 21-bedded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has been created in the department of Paediatrics. It was inaugurated today by Dr Sanjay Wazir, Director Neonatology Motherhood Hospital Gurgaon.
Objective of the webinar/Event
Objective of today’s celebration was inauguration of a new 21-bedded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Earlier there was only an 8-bedded NICU in the department of Paediatrics, which was proving insufficient for the number of deliveries we have in our SGT Hospital. A dire need was felt to expand the neonatal services in the hospital, hence the present NICU has been upgraded to 21-bedded NICU. Additional new equipment like ventilators, radiant warmers, monitors, phototherapy units have been purchased. This upgrade will help us in improving neonatal care and, reducing neonatal mortality and morbidity. Inauguration was followed by a guest lecture on the topic ‘Management of asphyxiated newborn’ by a distinguished neonatologist Dr Sanjay Wazir.
Brief content of lecture
Dr Sanjay Wazir delivered a talk on the topic ‘Management of asphyxiated newborn.’ He discussed definition, staging, pathophysiology and management of an asphyxiated newborn. He discussed early intervention strategies and latest modalities of management including ‘Therapeutic hypothermia’ which we are eager to start in our NICU. After all, our aim in SGT hospital is to improve patient care and upgrade the department academically.
