Breastfeeding Week Celebration 2025

The Faculty of Nursing, SGT University, celebrated World Breastfeeding Week from 4th to 8th August 2025, in alignment with the World Health Organization’s theme for the year, “Invest in breastfeeding, invest in the future".

The week-long program commenced with featuring a vibrant Poster and Rangoli Competition for nursing students, designed to foster creativity while promoting awareness on the significance of breastfeeding. In the Rangoli Competition, Vanshika and Muskan from B.Sc. Nursing secured the top positions, while Bhumika emerged as the winner of the Poster Competition.

An Expert Talk on "Prioritize Breastfeeding: Creating Sustainable Support System" was organized in which Prof. (Dr.) Lekha Bisht, Dean, School of Nursing, Galgotias University, delivered an insightful session emphasizing the need for supportive environments to promote breastfeeding. Prof. (Dr.) Atul Kumar Nasa, Pro Vice Chancellor, SGT University, graced the event as the Chief Guest. His presence added great value to the celebration. He highlighted the vital role of breastfeeding in promoting the health and overall well-being of both the mother and the newborn.

A thought-provoking and engaging Nukkad Natak along with a diet exhibition for lactating mothers was performed by the nursing students at different Government health/Hospital facility as PHC Daulatabad, Civil Hospital Sector 10, Gurugram, and Subdivisional Civil Hospital, Pataudi, Gurugram with an aim to raise awareness on the significance of exclusive breastfeeding, early initiation, proper positioning, and common myths associated with breastfeeding. The play highlighted the emotional bond between mother and child, the role of family support, and the health benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby. Following the nukkad natak, the mothers engaged actively by asking questions regarding breastfeeding practices and newborn care. It served as a strong reminder that breastfeeding is not solely a mother’s responsibility but a shared societal commitment toward securing a healthier future for the next generation.

The programme was successfully organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Kumar Dular, Dean, Faculty of Nursing; Prof. (Dr.) Sarika Yadav, Associate Dean; Prof. Deepak, Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing; Dr. Khushbu, Head of Child Health Nursing; and Ms. Poonam Ahlawat, along with the dedicated faculty team.

The initiative aimed to highlight the critical importance of breastfeeding in safeguarding the health and well-being of both mothers and infants, while advocating for the development of strong infrastructure and a supportive environment that enables mothers to provide optimal nourishment. Such efforts are pivotal in enhancing maternal and child health outcomes and fostering a culture of sustained breastfeeding support within communities.
