JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration: dates, fees, documents and how to apply

Introduction

If you plan to sit for JEE Main in January 2027, the application form is the first deadline that counts. A missed date or a careless entry can cost you the attempt, however well you have prepared.

Quick answer: As of 9 October 2026, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has not opened JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration or released the information bulletin. Its examination calendar, issued through a public notice dated 16 September 2026, lists the Session 1 exam on 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027, with 31 January as a buffer day. NTA has called these dates tentative. Last year the form opened on 31 October and closed on 27 November, so the 2027 form is expected in late October 2026 and should stay open for about four weeks.

This guide separates what NTA has confirmed from what is still expected. It then covers the documents to fix now, the form itself, the fee, and the mistakes that are hardest to undo. Details taken from the JEE Main 2026 bulletin are marked as such, because NTA can revise them for 2027.

When Will JEE Main 2027 Session 1 Registration Start?

NTA has not announced the registration date. The last cycle is the best guide. For JEE Main 2026, NTA issued a document advisory on 29 September 2025, released the bulletin and opened the form on 31 October 2025, and closed the form on 27 November 2025. This year's exam is scheduled one day later than last year's, so a similar window is likely.

Treat every date marked "Expected" in the table as an estimate. Only the notice on jeemain.nta.nic.in or nta.ac.in is final.

Who Can Apply for JEE Main 2027?

NTA states the eligibility rules in the information bulletin. The 2027 bulletin is awaited, but the rules below have applied in recent years and are expected to continue.

  • Age: There is no age limit for JEE Main. Institutes you apply to later may set their own age rules.
  • Year of passing: You should have passed Class 12 or an equivalent exam in 2025 or 2026, or be appearing for it in 2027.
  • Attempts: You can take JEE Main for three consecutive years. The exam is held in two sessions each year, and you may appear in both.
  • Subjects for B.E./B.Tech: Physics and Mathematics are compulsory, along with one of Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology or a technical vocational subject.
  • Subjects for B.Arch and B.Planning: B.Arch needs Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. B.Planning needs Mathematics.
  • Class 12 marks: You do not need a minimum percentage to sit for JEE Main. For admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, candidates have needed 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST and PwD candidates) or a place in the top 20 percentile of their board.

Documents Required for JEE Main 2027 Registration

Sorting out your documents before the form opens saves the most time. It also matters because the form draws on your Aadhaar and Class 10 records.

Fix these before the form opens

Before the 2026 cycle, NTA issued an advisory asking candidates to update three things in advance. The same preparation makes sense for 2027.

  • Aadhaar card: It should carry your correct name and date of birth as per your Class 10 certificate, your latest photograph, your address and your father's name. Aadhaar corrections are not instant, so start now.
  • UDID card (for candidates with disabilities): It should be valid, updated and renewed if required.
  • Category certificate (EWS, SC, ST or OBC-NCL): It should be updated and valid.

Uploads and file sizes

These specifications are from the JEE Main 2026 application form. Confirm them in the 2027 bulletin before you scan anything.

Document Format File size Notes
Passport-size photograph JPG/JPEG 10 KB to 200 KB Recent colour photo, 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm, white background, 80% of the face visible including ears, no mask
Signature JPG/JPEG 10 KB to 100 KB 3.5 cm × 1.5 cm, in your normal running handwriting
Class 10 certificate or marksheet PDF 50 KB to 300 KB Used to verify your name and date of birth
PwD or UDID certificate PDF 50 KB to 300 KB Only if you are claiming the PwD benefit
Identity proof JPG/JPEG 10 KB to 200 KB Only if you are not verifying through Aadhaar or DigiLocker

The 2026 form also asked candidates to capture a live photograph through a webcam during registration. The live photo was matched with the photograph on the Aadhaar record, so an outdated Aadhaar photo could hold up the form.

Details to keep on hand

  • An active mobile number and email ID that you will keep until admissions are over
  • Class 10 details, and Class 12 details such as board, school and year of passing or appearing
  • Category certificate number, issue date and issuing authority, if you are claiming a reservation
  • A payment method: UPI, debit card, credit card or net banking

How to Fill the JEE Main 2027 Application Form: Step by Step

The steps below follow the JEE Main 2026 form. NTA rarely changes the order, but the 2027 bulletin is the final word.

  1. Open the official website. Go to jeemain.nta.nic.in and click the JEE (Main) 2027 Session 1 registration link. Do not use links forwarded on social media.
  2. Complete the new registration. Choose how you will verify your identity, then enter your name, date of birth, gender, parents' names, mobile number and email ID. Set a password and a security question. You will receive an application number.
  3. Log in and fill the application form. Enter your personal details, category, address, and Class 10 and Class 12 details. Your state code of eligibility is the state where you passed or are appearing for Class 12.
  4. Choose your paper, language and exam cities. Select Paper 1, Paper 2A, Paper 2B or a combination, pick the question paper language, and rank your exam cities in order of preference.
  5. Capture and upload your images. Take the live photograph, then upload your photograph, signature, Class 10 certificate and any other document the form asks for.
  6. Pay the application fee. Pay online by UPI, card or net banking, and wait for the payment confirmation.
  7. Download the confirmation page. Save the PDF and keep printed copies. Note your application number and password somewhere safe.

A practical tip: fill the form on a laptop or desktop with a working webcam and a steady internet connection. Keep your scanned files in one folder, named clearly, before you begin.

JEE Main 2027 Application Fee

NTA has not announced the 2027 fee. The table shows the JEE Main 2026 fee, which is the most recent official figure.

Category One paper (India) One paper (outside India) Two or more papers (India) Two or more papers (outside India)
General (male) ₹1,000 ₹5,000 ₹2,000 ₹10,000
General (female) ₹800 ₹4,000 ₹1,600 ₹8,000
Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL (male) ₹900 ₹4,500 ₹2,000 ₹10,000
Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL (female) ₹800 ₹4,000 ₹1,600 ₹8,000
SC / ST / PwD (male or female) ₹500 ₹2,500 ₹1,000 ₹5,000
Third gender ₹500 ₹3,000 ₹1,000 ₹5,000

The fee is charged per session, and processing charges and GST are extra. NTA does not refund the fee if you later drop a paper, so choose your papers with care.

Choosing Your Paper, Exam Cities and Language

Three choices in the form decide what your exam looks like. All three are based on the 2026 pattern.

Paper For admission to Subjects Questions Marks
Paper 1 B.E./B.Tech Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics 75 300
Paper 2A B.Arch Mathematics, Aptitude, Drawing 77 400
Paper 2B B.Planning Mathematics, Aptitude, Planning 100 400
  • Marking: In Paper 1 you get 4 marks for a correct answer and lose 1 mark for a wrong one. The penalty applies to both multiple-choice and numerical questions.
  • Exam cities: You can choose up to four cities, from the state of your present or permanent address. NTA may allot a different city, and the city cannot be changed once it is allotted.
  • Language: JEE Main is offered in 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

JEE Main Correction Window: What Can You Change Later?

NTA opens a correction window for a few days after registration closes. For JEE Main 2026 Session 1, it came in December 2025. NTA lists the editable fields in the correction notice each year.

  • You can correct only what the notice allows, and only once the window is open.
  • Adding a paper means paying the extra fee. Removing a paper does not get you a refund.
  • In recent cycles, contact details such as mobile number, email ID and address could not be changed.
  • After the window closes, NTA does not accept correction requests.

Mistakes to Avoid in the JEE Main Application Form

  • Mismatched name or date of birth. Your Aadhaar and Class 10 certificate should agree letter for letter.
  • A poor photograph. Old, blurred or dark photos, coloured backgrounds and covered faces cause problems.
  • Someone else's contact details. Use your own or a parent's mobile number and email ID, not a cyber cafe's or a coaching centre's. Every NTA message goes there.
  • The wrong category, or an expired certificate. Check the validity of your EWS or OBC-NCL certificate before you enter it.
  • More than one application. NTA's instructions have warned candidates against submitting multiple forms.
  • Leaving it to the last day. A failed payment on the final evening leaves no time to try again.
  • Not saving the confirmation page. You will need the application number for the city slip, admit card and result.

What Happens After You Register?

  1. City intimation slip: NTA tells you your exam city a few weeks before the exam.
  2. Admit card: It carries your exam date, shift and centre. In 2026, NTA scheduled it for 3 to 4 days before the exam.
  3. Exam: Session 1 is listed for 22 to 30 January 2027, subject to NTA's final notification.
  4. Answer key and result: NTA publishes a provisional answer key, invites challenges, and then releases your NTA score.
  5. Session 2: You can apply again for the April session. If you take both, your better NTA score counts for the merit list.

Once the form is submitted, your time is better spent on preparation than on checking for updates. Our JEE Main preparation guide covers a study plan, a timetable and the books students rely on.

B.Tech Options to Plan Alongside JEE Main

JEE Main ranks decide admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, and many other universities also consider the score. It is sensible to shortlist a few institutes while you register, so that you are not deciding in a hurry after the results.

At SGT University, Gurugram, a JEE Main score is not compulsory for B.Tech admission. The university's current admission notification gives preference in technical courses to candidates who have appeared in JEE Main. For example, the B.Tech CSE programme page lists 10+2 with at least 45% marks (40% for reserved categories) in the required subjects as the eligibility.

SGT University offers these four-year B.Tech programmes:

FAQs

Q1. When will JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration start?
NTA has not announced the date as of 9 October 2026. Last year the form opened on 31 October 2025, and this year's exam is scheduled one day later, so registration is expected to open in late October 2026. The official notice will appear on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Q2. What is the last date to apply for JEE Main 2027 Session 1?
The last date is not announced yet. In the 2026 cycle the form stayed open for four weeks, from 31 October to 27 November 2025. If NTA follows the same pattern, expect the 2027 deadline in late November 2026. Apply well before the final day.

Q3. What are the JEE Main 2027 Session 1 exam dates?
NTA's examination calendar, issued on 16 September 2026, lists JEE Main 2027 Session 1 on 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027, with 31 January as a buffer day. NTA has described these dates as tentative. Session 2 dates are not announced.

Q4. What is the JEE Main 2027 application fee?
The 2027 fee is not announced. In 2026, the fee for one paper at a centre in India was ₹1,000 for General male candidates, ₹900 for Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL male candidates, ₹800 for female candidates in these categories, and ₹500 for SC, ST, PwD and third gender candidates.

Q5. Which documents are required for JEE Main 2027 registration?
Going by the 2026 form, you need a recent passport-size photograph, your signature, your Class 10 certificate, an identity document such as Aadhaar, and a PwD or UDID certificate if it applies. You also enter your category certificate details, Class 12 details, and an active mobile number and email ID.

Q6. Is Aadhaar mandatory for JEE Main 2027 registration?
The 2027 rule will be stated in the bulletin. In the 2026 form, Aadhaar was the main way to verify identity, and candidates could also use DigiLocker or upload another identity proof such as a passport or PAN card. If you use Aadhaar, make sure its name, date of birth and photograph are up to date.

Q7. Can I apply for Session 1 and Session 2 together?
The 2027 bulletin will confirm this. In the 2026 cycle, NTA opened a separate application window for Session 2 from the last week of January 2026, after Session 1 registration had closed. If you take both sessions, NTA uses your better NTA score for the merit list.

Q8. How many times can I attempt JEE Main?
You can attempt JEE Main for three consecutive years, starting from the year you appear for Class 12. The exam is held in two sessions each year, and you may take both. There is no age limit for the exam.

Q9. Can I edit my JEE Main application form after submitting it?
Yes, but only during the correction window that NTA opens for a few days after registration closes. In recent cycles, contact details such as mobile number, email ID and address could not be changed, so check them carefully before you submit.

Q10. Does SGT University accept JEE Main scores for B.Tech admission?
A JEE Main score is not compulsory for B.Tech admission at SGT University. Its current admission notification gives preference in technical courses to candidates who have appeared in JEE Main. You can read the full process on the SGT University admission procedure page.
