Team Member delivered a talk titled “Artificial Intelligence in Chemistry: Hype or Reality?”

2026-02-10

On 10th February 2026, Dr. Divya Sareen delivered an engaging, online expert talk at Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur City, Punjab. The session was attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students of Chemistry. The session provided a comprehensive yet accessible overview of how Artificial Intelligence is transforming modern chemical research, with applications in drug discovery, reaction prediction, materials design, spectroscopy, and sustainable chemistry. It also critically examined whether AI is merely a trend or a transformative scientific tool. The interactive lecture encouraged critical thinking by distinguishing between the real capabilities and common misconceptions surrounding AI in scientific research. Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, the talk highlighted how AI complements, rather than replaces, the expertise of chemists. Students gained clarity on the role of chemists in the AI era, the importance of data literacy and interdisciplinary skills, and the emerging career opportunities at the intersection of chemistry and artificial intelligence.

The session aimed to inspire students to embrace interdisciplinary learning and develop skills relevant to the evolving landscape of chemical sciences. It successfully sparked curiosity and motivated participants to explore AI-enabled research pathways, aligning with the vision of the Centre of Excellence in AI to promote innovation-driven learning in higher education.
